Question Point - How to Strip Models

Dettol kills 99.9% of germs. That 0.1% germ is a Legend. Dettol Hey Caesurians, thanks for tuning in last week for the first birthday party of The Art of Caesura! After much reflection in preparation for last week post, I found that one of my most popular entries from last year was the one where I showed how I made my Silver Tower bases. So this year I've decided to have an irregular series demonstrating other techniques. Now, I know that tutorials exist elsewhere on the internet, but as I have just recently learned these techniques myself I thought I might have a bit of insight for others who are just trying them for the first time.  My first of these such articles is today! Question Point: How to strip paint off old models.  I lived in Australia about two years ago. One of the many delights I enjoyed whilst over there  (not least of which were the people, weather and goon)  was perfect weather to spray paint the undercoat (or primer) for models.  When I mov

What a Kraken Year it's Been!

Happy Birthday my old friend!! Aurelio Voltaire WELCOME TO THE ART OF CAESURA'S FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY!! It's hard to believe that I've been at this every week for a year - and week after week you masochists keep coming back! Thank you!  6 months ago I reflected on how the blog was going. I even made my first infographic to celebrate (I know, we're wild here!). So here's an updated look at the first year of this happy little hobby blog from the South West of Ireland: Click on the image so you can actually see it. So how did I do? I'm really proud of all the little dudes I painted. The number I've done this year probably exceeds the number I've done in my previous 29 years of living! I think it was the massive diversity of models that kept my interest supercharged! That, and having you guys on here to motivate me! Let's take a look at some of my better efforts. Please excuse the self indulgence - just go along with it, in tr

"Day of the Tentacles" - Kraken Tentacles

Yes. Thank you, naive human.  Now, I can finish taking over the world! Day of the Tentacle Happy new year once again and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! This week is the calm before the storm. Next week this blog turns one and I've been working on a big model to celebrate! Next week is going to be a huge entry, so this week we'll keep it short... I'm ashamed to say that I still haven't had a chance to play the Conan board game that arrived last month, but I have been having a blast painting it so far! This week I painted the tentacles. I spent a while deciding on the colour scheme and I settled on one that I thought would blend into the ocean well. A nice dark greeny-blue.  I finished them off with a thick coat of gloss varnish. I'd like to finish their bases with a splash effect - as if they're bursting forth from the sea - but I haven't quite figured out how I want to approach that yet.  In 1993, I was ju

The Ale of Redemption

Battle is the Great Redeemer. It is the fiery crucible  in which true heroes are forged. Edge of Tomorrow Hello fellow Caesurians and welcome to a new year of awesome content on The Art of Caesura! As I mentioned last week, I want to save all the annual resolutions for a few weeks' time when this blog turns one. In the meantime we've an important bevvy to wax lyrical about.  Way back in October I started a brew that was a little different than my previous efforts . I still used a Mangrove Jacks mix but rather than just adding glucose as fermenting sugar I used half glucose and half brown sugar.  Let us recall from our high school chemistry that glucose and dextrose are enantiomers of each other (that is to say the "right" and "left" hand versions of the same chemical - and that chemical is the most basic sugar - or monosaccharide). In your body it is only type of food your brain uses and it is simple enough for yeast to bre
