"The Boss of the Game" - Gaunt Summoner

And  wrought with weeping and laughter, And  fashioned with loathing and love, With  life before and after And  death beneath and above Algernon Charles Swinburne - Atalanta in Calydon Welcome all to another special week on The Art of Caesura! This week marks my completion of painting all 51 of the miniatures in Warhammer Quest Silver Tower; and who better to finish out on than the boss of the game, The Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch himself! A quick note before we begin, now having completed the painting of the entire box-set, my wife and I have picked up our adventures where we had left off - on the third-to-last trial: Chamon. So don't get to remaniscent about Silver Tower yet, I'll post some pics of our adventures in a couple of weeks' time. Okay, I've got a lot to discuss when it comes to my painting of the Gaunt Summoner... Overall, I know that from the lore, being a demon of Tzeentch there should be loads of brig

"Glimmermist" - Mistweaver Saih

A Mistweaver Saih is a powerful enchantress.  Drifting amidst a swirling, sorcerous haze, she flickers in and out of sight at will, sowing confusion and paranoia amongst those who have drawn her ire. ~ Games Workshop Welcome all to The Art of Caesura! We're back with the last hero (and second-to-last mini) from Silver Tower! Like last week's Darkoath Chieftain , this week's model is a special one because it's the character my wife plays as in Silver Tower: the Mistweaver Saih! Before we begin, does anyone know how to actually pronounce "Saih"? We pronounce it "Sigh" (which I think fits with the whole "mist" imagery) but I've heard others pronounce it "Say" or even "Shay". Anyway, more important than how we pronounce it is the model itself. When I first saw this miniature, I recognized it was something special. There are a lot of striking features to this model: it's surprisingly

"Crush Your Enemies" - Darkoath Chieftain

A Darkoath Chieftain has set his feet upon the path to glory or damnation. His every deed is meant to win the favour of the gods. ~ Games Workshop Happy Friday on The Art of Caesura! With only three more models to paint (including the one this week!) we're quickly nearing completion of Silver Tower! This week is an important one! The Darkoath Chieftain is my favourite hero and the guy that I play as in Silver Tower and he's just a big bad-ass barbarian. I left him for last partially because I always get anxious about painting my favourite models and characters lest I bugger them up (hence, Grimgore Ironhide is still unpainted after over a decade!). I also hesitated painting this guy because I had an important decision to make: So, what was my hardest decision in my whole Silver Tower model-making process? Which arm to use for the Darkoath Chieftain!! This decision has literally taken me almost two years to make - since I first got Silver Tower! I really co

"Hair and Blades" - Tenebrael Shard

A Tenebrael Shard is a killer of superlative skill. Fast beyond belief, supernaturally agile and ominously silent, the Shard closes upon his prey as fast as thought and ends their lives with callous efficiency. ~ Games Workshop It's Friday! It's The Art of Caesura! After last week's noble, bald, dark-skinned, grounded-postured Warpriest; this week we have...someone completely different! It's the Tenebrael Shard! Something I've really loved about the Silver Tower models is the immense diversity! We've had walking books and fish , a huge blue Minotaur , skaven , new spider-goblins and bird-beastmen . And that's just amongst the villains! As we've seen over the past few weeks, the heroes are fairly diverse too (although it would have been cool to see a new orc or Lizardman (Seraphon) among the core heroes (though you can add them on yourself with extra hero cards). Looking back, I can't think of a boxed game that introduced

"Holy Radiance" - Excelsior Warpriest

This courageous mortal man has taken up arms to protect Sigmar's faithful from Chaos, and has been gifted with the power to summon forth the divine light of Sigmar. ~ Games Workshop Back to the Silver Tower today on The Art of Caesura! We're adding another hero to the roster of hapless adventurers wandering the Silver Tower. He's teaming up with last week's Doomseeker, and his name always makes me think of that old chewing gum commercial, "Excel-Excelorate yooour breath!" It's the Excelsior Warpriest! There's a lot to talk about with the ol' Warpriest, so let's dive right in. The first thing I love about him is his "I have the POWERRRRR" He-man pose! Very "Masters of the Universe"y.  When this guy first game out, I wasn't a huge fan of the "studio" colour-scheme (lots of whites and oranges) and I could't really find a colour scheme that I liked, so I just made up my own. I kno
