Not for him is the sound of the harp
nor the giving of rings
nor pleasure in woman
nor worldly glory --
nor anything at all
unless the tossing of waves;
but he always has a longing,
he who strives on the waves.
- The Seafarer (Old Anglo-Saxon Poem)
Welcome back to The Art of Caesura!
So, August inadvertently turned into the month of the Arkanaut over here in Caesura-land! I've had a great time going into these guys in some detail over the past month and today we get to see the finished product!
For all of the in-depth commentary of the building and painting of these models and their bases, check out the past few posts; today we'll let the pictures do most of the talking. And wow, there are quite a few pictures! I wanted to give each model their time in the spotlight, so rather than just a few group shots, we've got individual shots of each Arkanaut. Sit back, and enjoy!
First up is the company captain. He already stands out with his anchor-axe and triple-barreled pistol, but I also painted his helmet off-white and gave him the biggest rock to stand on to really emphasize his status.
From largest rock, to smallest rock, the next arkanaut has one of the few "running legs" so I tried to make it look like he's about to leap from the rock.
I like how the wave turned out on this next guy...
A nice static "aiming" pose. I gave him the head with a big eye-patch lens, to emphasize him looking down the iron-sights of his pistol.
I used the two pebbles to elevate this guy's back foot so that he's really leaning aggressively forward with the waves crashing around him.
The guy with the skypike was already looking up towards the end of his weapon (at the guy he's about to shove it into!) so I accentuated this even more by angling him upwards on his henge-stones. Not only does this make it look like he's about to fight a big monster, but when he's on the table, he looks like he's looking at you!
What's not to love about a dwarf with a gatling gun!? I gave this guy the backpack with the most "aether power" coursing through it to power his big gun.
This one is actually my favorite of the batch! I love how he is charging forwards. I tried to increase the tension, by having him running along a narrow rock with a large wave breaking beside him.
Man, it felt about a million times better to be putting these guys into a display case instead of a cardboard box once I was finished them.
Thank you all for all of your love, especially over on Instagram over the past few weeks of showing work in progress shots of these guys! It feels great to have these ten done, and I'm really happy with the result!
We'll be shifting gears for the next few weeks, looking at a topic that has been far too absent on the blog over the past year - so tune in next week to The Art of Caesura!
