"Vile Reclamation" - Abomination (Sawhawk)

“Many question the curiously human faces some abominations have, And how they came to be lodged in a monstrosity of flesh and steel.” Malifaux 2E: Crossroads Hey dudes and dudettes, welcome back to The Art of Caesura! And welcome to the first non-World of Smog mini on my blog so far. I had heaps of fun with this grotesque little Malifaux dude. He’s an abomination from Leviticus’ set, and man is he tiny! I dub him "SAWHAWK" I have to say, this guy went together really smoothly, there were minimal mould lines to clean and all his various limbs popped right into place. He really made me think of some monstrosity from Doom or Wolfenstein and is titular Sawhawk is right echoed in Mad Max's Scrotus. I had fun breaking up his fleshy bits with Blood for the Blood-god technical paint splattered on with a stippling brush. I just wanted to include a few work-in-progress shots to try to show him in a bit more detail, and to give a bit of r

First Forays into the Miniatures of Malifaux

Hey all, welcome back to The Art of Caesura, Last week I was talking about my perspective on the world of Malifaux, and this time around I want to talk about the minis and show the loot I’ve managed to amass so far. But before I do, I hope you had a great week, and that next week is even better! As I’ve mentioned a couple of times before, I came to Malifaux from Warhammer Fantasy. I was used to painting big chunky orcs; and lots of them! So when I bought my first Wyrd minis (Jacob Lynch’s “Dark Debts” box) I was impressed and a little intimidated by how small these guys are. I mean they are 32mm scale compared to GW’s 28mm scale, so I guess technically they’re larger. But by God, they’re slight. Their various wrists and ankles and the like are really really minuscule (one of the Beckoners’ canes is thinner than the width of a paperclip!). I love the detail of them, and the narrowness of the models actually make them feel even more detailed. Miniature Size Compari

Mentioning Malifaux

Only a handful of people have any idea how they discovered the world just outside of our existence, but only the faintest veil kept our two realities apart...and all walls can be knocked down. Malifaux - 2nd Edition Rule Book Hi Gang, and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Hope the week has been a good one. I just started a new job this week, so that’s been pretty awesome! When I started this blog I wasn’t exactly sure which direction it would go. Would it be a strictly miniatures blog? Would it focus on one miniature game exclusively? Would it be about hobbies in general? I’m happy with how it’s going. I like that it’s largely about miniatures, with other hobbies thrown in fortnightly. Let me know what you think? Is there something you’d like me to focus more on? If I were going to focus exclusively on miniature game / line it would be Malifaux. This might seem funny because I’ve barely mentioned Malifaux up until now. But secretly in the background, while

Tasting and Judgement!

"If memory serves me correctly..." "We unveil the ingredient..." "bang a gong, we are on!"  "Who takes it? Whose cuisine reigns supreme?" Various quotes from classic Iron Chef Hey team, you know what Friday means: Art of Caesura! I’ll come right out of the gates by saying that this is going to be a short episode…post…entry? Not for lack of content, but because what I want to talk about doesn’t really exist in a medium that I can share it. Sorry folks, smell-o-vision (and beer-o-vision) still aren’t things yet…or anymore . That’s right, this week is the answer to the question “how did Sabre  turn out?”. And as a bonus for receiving my first viewer from Japan, we’re going to have loads of Iron Chef references! With the excitement of World of Smog minis and wanting to introduce you guys and gals to Vlad and Portia, I never revealed how that beer I was brewing turned out. So this time I want to talk about that. But how

"The Living Dummy" - The Puppet

“Who you calling dummy, dummy ?” R.L. Stine Happy Friday, and welcome back to your weekly break for The Art of Caesura! So, have you got any Easter eggs left? Me neither! Yet another creepy World of Smog mini. I feel like that is becoming the best descriptor for these guys: creepy! We’ve had a guy with a buzz saw fora neck bursting through a woman’s chest, a kid with a horse-skull for a head , a corpse with coins for eyes , and a dude with an alien larva busting out of hisface . Yep, creepy. Now let’s add this guy to the mix: The Puppet “The Puppet was used for months by the Grand Guignol Variety of Hammersmith theatre in macabre and bloody skits that disturbed even the most malicious spectator, before the evil fairy Befana decided to enchant the puppet. Her dark spell gave it life while on stage. It stabbed its ventriloquist and ended the show beside his corpse. The crowd loved it. Now the Puppet performs in the Shadow Market.” The World of Smog: O
