"So, this is a rabbit, I thought..." - Abominabunny

"Today vegetables... tomorrow the world!" - Bunnicula  Welcome into The Art of Caesura! We're shifting gears this week from The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch, over to another Kickstarter that I backed last year: Zombicide Green Horde! On painting Winston a few weeks ago, I really liked the super small scale of that little animal, so I rooted around for a similarly miniscule mini; and what I found...was horrifying: ABOMINABUNNY!! This little guy was a lot of fun...and he looks pretty lethal in the game too! I started with White Scar and gave him a wash of 50:50 Drakenhoff Nightshade and Lahmian Medium - this gave him a nice eerie blueish tinge. I highlighted the fur back up to white, leaving the grey-blue in the crevices.  Look at the cute little bunny... His ears are Screamer Pink with Druchii Violet down towards the inner ear.  For his eyes, I shaded the sockets with Nuln Oil then dotted the eyes with Ushabti Bone

"We All Wear Masks..." - Professor Sawbones

We penetrated deeper and deeper into the  heart of darkness. ~ Joseph Conrad Welcome back! It's the Art of Caesura! This week marks our 6th consecutive week of The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch coverage, and this time 'round it's: I must confess, today's mini filled me with confusion when I first saw it. I really didn't get the English Victorian garb with the African mask, it just really didn't do it for me. I also didn't understand the name - a Sawbones is the old term for  a surgeon...I don't know, maybe I'm missing something there. I'm happy to say that my feelings about the aesthetics of the model totally changed when I started painting him. I find this often happens - that I only really come to fully appreciate a miniature when I'm really relishing in it through the painting process. Another model that comes to mind like this was The Merchant , which ended up being one of my favorite models of last year.

"The Occult Wizard" - Eroom Nala

Don't leave home without your sword - your intellect. - Alan Moore Welcome to Friday on The Art of Caesura! Long time Caesurians will know that I'm quite an Alan Moore fan. I've read most of his comics (including his early stuff with Marvel and DC upto his recent "Providence") but have yet to tackle his genetic mythology "Jerusalem". I think Alan Moore would like much of the world of The World of Smog. The adventures of the Gentlemen in The World of Smog, are not unlike those of Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Also, the occult themes and eerie sense of foreboding of something monstrous lying just below the surface of society is a theme that is present in Rise of Moloch and most of Moore's works.  So I wonder if he knows that he has a model made of him in this game. How do we know it's him? Well aside from looking like him, the backwards name thing kind of gives it away! Knowing that this is Alan Moore I p

"British Bulldog" - Winston

You will never reach your destination if you stop to throw stones at every dog that barks. ~Winston Churchill Welcome back to your weekly fill on The Art of Caesura! This week's mini is tiny...even by miniature standards! It's the stalwart little bulldog from The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch, Winston! For reference when I was planning my painting of this guy, I just popped "bulldog" into google and came up with this: It almost looks like the artist used the same image for reference! I started by painting the whole guy Skrag Brown - it's a new colour for me and is a nice yellow-brown, compared to the red-brown Doombull brown that I usually use.    After the brown, I washed him with Agrax Earthshade. I'm happy with how the highlights turned out (Skrag brown with a bit of Yriel Yellow added), I tried to keep them pretty smoothe.  Once the Agrax was dry and the highlights were complete, I cracked on with the white pa

"Peristalsis in Action!" - Omnivorous

"Feed Me!" - Little Shop of Horrors Hello Caesurians and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Another day, another creepy monstrosity from The World of Smog! This was another very interesting mini to paint. It's basically two separate models (the "worm from Tremors" and the rider, Blind Bob) and took a surprising amount of time to paint.  Let's start with the worm...I painted him Ushabti Bone all over then shaded with a very thin wash of Drakenhoff Nightshade to give a nice unheimlich hue. From here, I highlighted up some his larger fleshy folds and worked the cysts up to thin coats of white and then gloss varnish - ready to burst! I even went back at the end and painted all of the pores on the worm's body black to make them stand out better! For a bit of contrast, I painted the centipedes in a similar dark reddish manner as I had painted the one on the hat of The Dandy for the first game in this series.  I took my time o
