Holy smokes, it's another New Year! As I mentioned last week , 2021 was like some weird temporal shift. It feels like it only lasted a few months, but then when I think back on all that's happened in the year (many huge life changes, which I will elaborate on in a future post) they seem like ages ago! So, as is our wont on The Art of Caesura, we will look at the year in review and our dreams and aspirations for this shiny new year on the blog's birthday post in a couple of weeks time. Today, I just wanted to dip in quickly to give you a sneak peak of some of the things that Santa got me (which may appear on the blog in the coming year). Season's greetings! Happy holidays!   Well that year was a blur - it felt like six months! Luckily, some of the minis that I painted in the past year have come back to wish you all a very merry Christmas! We'll start with the cutest one on the list, it's the Augen from Reichbusters. When you're snuggled in your bed tonight and you hear the pitter patter of little "hooves" on your roof...don't worry, it's probably reindeer! The  Shrieker  is beautifully hitting the high notes in "O Holy Night". Raise the alarm! Santa's on the way! Even this grizzled old goat is getting in the festive spirit! Target acquired. Today I want to talk about a painting concept which is pretty obvious, but only really hit home for me a couple of years ago: it's the idea that you don't always have to paint your best. Now, that's a bit of a negative way of putting it, because what I'm really talking about is cultivating the ability to have different "levels" of painting and recognizing when each is appropriate. Well hello there, fancy seeing you here for another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Today it's a short one to celebrate something that I've never celebrated on the blog before: My Birthday! I annually (duh!) celebrate the blog's birthday  (only a couple of months until its 6th birthday!) and I have recently started celebrating my daughters' birthdays on the blog, but I have never celebrated my own.  The reason for this is because I have wanted to keep the content hobby-oriented, but the more hobby-related media I consume, the more I realize that what attracts me (and likely others) to content is getting to know the person behind the content.  I can think of a bunch of podcasts that I listen to more for the banter of the hosts than for what they're talking about ( Trapped Under Plastic , Legends of the Painty Men , The 2 Ps Podcast ) and a blog that is a good example of this is Another Wargaming Blog  where his witty tone and personal asides only add to his posts.  So

A few weeks ago we looked at Taddeus the Purifier , today we're going to look at his psychotic acolyte: Pious Vorne. Pious is one of the adventurers that I am using in the campaign that my wife and I have on the go (along with the inimitable Janus Draik ). A Black Templar at heart , I was attracted by her fanaticism, hatred of heretics and big-ass flamer/chainsword. She's great in the game, able to set spaces of the board on fire to create traps and choke points. I use the flame tokens from my Hellboy board game for this, and they're perfect. She actually does a good bit of damage, but can't take much in return. Mechanically, she would actually be well-paired with Taddeus, because he could heal her, which is nice because th
