Come one, come all, to the EIGHTH birthday celebration for The Art of Caesura! When I started this blog , I had no idea that it would having the staying power to still be here eight years later. But I have found that my enjoyment of creating the blog has only grown with time! I certainly have less time to devote to the blog than I did in the pre-kid era, but I have found ways to continue to make it what I want it to be, to be relevant for me, and (I hope) enjoyable for you! Let's kick this party off in the time-honoured manner that the best parties are kicked off: with an infographic featuring cutsie pastel anthropomorphized sea creatures. Yes, I really outdid myself this year! Let's slow down for a moment and take a more reflective look at what's been going on over the past year.  For anyone keeping score, there have been 416 Fridays in the past eight years...but there have been 421 blog posts. Today I want to talk about a painting concept which is pretty obvious, but only really hit home for me a couple of years ago: it's the idea that you don't always have to paint your best. Now, that's a bit of a negative way of putting it, because what I'm really talking about is cultivating the ability to have different "levels" of painting and recognizing when each is appropriate. Sufficiently confused? Good, let's dig in. So, what got me thinking about this is that I'm painting my first Black Templar in almost a decade, and my painting confidence has come on a long way since the last Black Templar model that I painted. Welcome one and all to the 300th post on The Art of Caesura!!! Yes indeed, three hundred consecutive weeks of (mostly) hobby-related action over the past five and a half years! It's kind of hard to imagine - by any metric (number of photos per post or number of words per post or number of hours put into each post, multiplied by 300 is quite a lot no matter which way you cut it).  As a tribute to the blog, we're going to celebrate by looking at one hundred photos spanning from now back to the 200th post .   HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ART OF CAESURA!! Cue the confetti-poppers, my weekly blog is FIVE YEARS OLD!! That's half a decade of posts every single Friday right here on The Art of Caesura! And what a year it's been. With these birthday celebrations, I don't want to dwell on the negative, but I will just acknowledge that this has - without a shadow of a doubt - been the hardest year of my life. And not just because of the pandemic, but that certainly exacerbated everything. So it's with some degree of pride that I managed to keep painting and posting despite it all.
