"This way. No THAT way!" - Rein and Raus

You go high I'll go low. - Rein and Raus Welcome, on this sunny Friday, to The Art of Caesura! We're delving back into the Blackstone Fortress! Last week we gazed in fascinated horror at the Rogue Psykers  and today we're looking at the most diminutive pair of explorers: Rein and Raus! Rein and Raus are the Ratling brother (twins?) who are basically Space Hobbits! I love that Games Workshop really leaned into the hobbit theme with Ratlings in 40k by even giving them hairy feat! On these models they even gave a nod to their obsession with food by given Raus (Rein?) a mini-fridge on his back! This fridge has other significance. Because, in the lore, they arrived on the same ship as UR-025  and because I tried to paint UR-025 like an old fridge, I painted this fridge this fridge in the same way to draw a connection between these explorers.  In the campaign that my wife and I are playing, I am playing as Rein and Raus. While not my favourite models, I was really intrigued by th

"Unrestrained Power" - Rogue Psykers

Chaos psykers, often called sorcerers,  can perform various tasks  such as summoning Daemons  and unleashing devastating weaponised  psychic powers upon the enemy.  - Warhammer 40k Wiki Howdy howdy! Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! It has come at last! Enter the warp as we cast our minds back to when we were last looking at Blackstone Fortress. Readers with good memories might recall that I said I was so close to having all of the minis of Blackstone Fortress finished before the blog's last birthday . And it was true! I only had three to go which I ended up finishing within a month of the blog's birthday (so not too shabby, if I do say so myself). Well I actually had these guys painted at the time (I actually painted them back in November) but I was in the midst of showing off Marshal Grymm at the time so I decided to hold these guys back until I got the rest of Blackstone Fortress painted. Anyway, it is now time to reveal the Rogue Psykers! God, I really

"And My Axe" - Sword Brother Complete

The pen is mightier than the sword if the sword is very short and the pen is very sharp. - Terry Pratchett Greetings one and all, welcome to your regular Friday dose of The Art of Caesura! Today we see the culmination of the past few weeks' work. Today we're looking at my first Black Templars Sword Brother! This model is AWESOME!! I always loved the aesthetic of the Sword Brethren, they are the archetypal Space Crusader and they really exemplify Space Marines as knights. I have spent the past few weeks really looking at everything that went into this guy, so today let's just bask.  One quick note is that I had to use a different lighting set-up this time 'round. I used my regular cold LED light from the upper right, but my other "spotlight" which I usually use from the front was unavailable (in a room with a sleeping baby) so I used an Edison-style warm lamp coming from the left instead. I actually like the effect and think it creates quite atmospheric lightin

"From the Chapter Keep" - Sword Brother - Armour

Trust in the Emperor at the hour of battle. Trust to him to intercede, and protect his warriors true  as they deal death on alien soil. Turn their seas to red with the blood of their slain. Crush their hopes, their dreams And turn their songs into cries of lamentation. - Codex Black Templars (4th Ed.) Welcome one and all to another wondrous Friday on The Art of Caesura! I want to start by saying a big happy birthday to my wife yesterday!  I hope you are all enjoying (as I am) the Warhammer Fest online coverage, we've had some seriously cool looks ahead! Today we're completing the painting of this Sword Brother whom I've been working on for the past couple weeks. Last week we looked at how I painted his face, the week before saw me sculpt his hair and today he comes to completion.  I painted his armour the same way as that of Marshal Grymm several months ago. From a Chaos Black (for a Black Templar - heresy!) undercoat, I painted the armour with thinned Abaddon Black (als
