Summer Holidays 2026!

Life is short and the world is wide. - Simon Raven Welcome back one and all to The Art of Caesura! We have now returned from our summer holidays in Lake Annecy and Chamonix, France; and a bit of Novello, Italy. I won't do a whole play-by-play, but I will just share a few photos as much to help me remember some of the experiences that we had as to share them with you! First a map (or two) to orient us of our route: We flew from Dublin to Geneva and then drove down to Lake Annecy in the French Alps, where we spent about a week at Les Fontaine Eurocamp.  We then drove to Chamonix to stay with our friends for about a week and a half. To end our trip our two families drove to a stunning area of the Italian wine country for a little "holiday-within-a-holiday".  Here's a zoomed out map to better orient yourself: Now, let's zoom back in (figuratively speaking) and take a closer look at what we got up to.  The Euro Camp, and Lake Annecy in general, where honestly awesome! ...

"A Caesura, if You Will" - Mid-year Check-in

Hello, Hello! Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! We're still on our holidays for another few days, but don't you worry, dear reader, through the powers of my Space Station Zero crew, The Time Masters, I was able to prepare a blog post in the past for you to read in the future...er...present... With the year flying by at break-neck speed, I thought it would be a good time to take a brief pause, a Caesura, if you will, to pop our heads up and see where we stand regarding the blog this year thus far. After all, it is the blog's 10th anniversary this year! So, if we cast our minds all the way back to January, to the first celebration of the blog's 10th year , I listed some hobby goals for 2026. Let's have a quick check-in to see how those are going: Hmmm...well it doesn't seem like much progress has been made on these goals, or at least there's been no evidence of it on the blog. But dear reader, what do you think I've been up to in the ...

"Vroom vroom" - Buying an Electric Car

With great power comes an even greater electricity bill! Recently we decided to step into the near future and buy an electric car! Here's a little taster to waylay the fears of anyone considering something similar.  It all started at a gathering of parents from my daughter's class. I got talking to a dad-friend and he put me onto this brilliant video: The video is fun because the speaker is funny and he cleverly reverses the paradigm in a way that opened my eyes to the real benefits of an electric car.  Actually, if I'm truly honest, my fascination with electric cars really started 20 years earlier when I saw this film with my mum at my university movie theatre.  Hard to believe that was TWENTY YEARS ago!  Anyway, t here is a curious point in any significant purchase where you realise you are no longer shopping.  You're researching, t hen creating spreadsheets, t hen watching YouTube videos, enthusiastically discussing charging curves.  Eventually, somewher...

Happy Birthday to My Wife!

Welcome back, one and all, to The Art of Caesura! Today is a brief but special post to wish a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my wonderful wife (it's kind of a big one this year).  This one's for you Jules, we all love you! Happy birthday! And I'll see the rest of you back here next week!

HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!! - Part 4 - Partay

Welcome back to the culmination of the 10th Birthday Celebrations of this blog, The Art of Caesura!! If you're only just joining us (or if your memory is as bad as mine is), we kicked off the celebrations with an Infographic Reterospective , then we looked at ALL of my favourite miniatures from the past ten years of blogging, and then, just last week, we looked at all of YOUR favourite (and least favourite) posts of all time! Phew! So what could possibly be left to do for the birthday celebrations? Oh yeah, PARRRRTYYYYY!!! A few weeks ago, for the actual 10th birthday of The Art of Caesura, my wife very kindly surprised me with a cake and balloons!! She relayed a funny story about her buying the "10" balloon from the shop and the lady asking 'is it for a boy or a girl' after answering "uh...boy", my wife found herself sliding down a rabbit hole as the lady asked what this 'boy' was into: gaming? super heroes? My wife felt the need to come cle...

HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!! - Part 3 - Notable Posts

Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Today we are continuing our celebrations for the Tenth birthday of The Art of Caesura! So far, we've been enthralled by the infographic , and we marvelled at minis from the past ten years. Today we're casting our net wider than just looking at minis, and, where last week was mostly about me and my favourite minis, today is all about YOU dear readers. Today we're  going to do something that I've never done on the blog before: we're going to look at all of YOUR favourite posts. To be honest with you, I really am not driven by views anymore. I always hope that my audience (you) will find something of interest and a have pleasant little diversion (a caesura , if you will) for a few minutes of a Friday, but I don't go back and check the blog analytics anymore. I just keep writing this blog for myself - and yourselves. There is one post, however, which holds a special place for me specifically because of how popular it became...but...
