"You Shall Not Pass!" - Balrog - Part I

There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world. The Fellowship of the Ring , J.R.R. Tolkein Dear fellow Caesurians, welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Thank you for joining me for the 4th birthday of the blog last week , and if you recall, the last image of the post (and the blog's birthday present) was a teaser for what we're looking at today. If you missed it, check it out here ! I have a long history with this model. I have always loved The Lord of the Rings. I remember our imaginations going wild when my dad read a beautifully illustrated edition of The Hobbit to my brother and I when we were kids. A few years later, I read The Lord of the Rings to my brother, and have read them all again a couple times since. I look forward to when my daughter is old enough to get lost in Tolkein's epic world.  When Peter Jackson's 'The Fellowship of the Ring' came out I managed to get tickets to opening night in th

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ART OF CAESURA!! Bust out the cake, the blog's four years old!! Four years of posts every single week on The Art of Caesura!! The blog's birthday is always an amazing time. I've just been taking a little trip down memory lane, looking at the first , second and third birthdays on the blog. For those of you who have been with me for any of those other birthdays, THANK YOU SO MUCH for checking out my little hobby blog. Likewise, to those joining us for the first time this year, welcome, come on in and join in the celebrations! In the amended words of a great Irish pub song: "whoever you are, you're one of us, whoever you are, we'll make a fuss if you're [a hobbiest], this is the place for you!" - ~ - If there's ever a time for self-indulgence, it's on one's birthday, so let's take a nice self-indulgent look at some of the accomplishments documented on this blog over the past year. "A Nose for Aether-gold" - Thundrik's Profiteers - Part II

With a hardy crew and a magnificent skyvessel  at his command, Thundrik set out to achieve  what all others had failed to do. ~ Games Workshop Ahoy-hoy and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Last week we looked at the "profiteers" part of the Warhammer Underworlds warband Thundrik's Profiteers , this week let's look at Thundrik himself! As I said last week, I really love this set. I have been enjoying all of the Warhammer Underworlds warbands that I've painted so far - they are a characterful snapshot of a given faction in Age of Sigmar. Obviously, with my love for Kharadron Overlords, this one has been my favorite so far! Today, I will reproduce the recipes that I use for my KO, discuss some of my process, and note some of the weathering and basing techniques for these guys. All aboard! Pre-washes (well, just about! I just shaded his right leg before remembering to take this picture!) Beige and blue highlighted, now on to highlight the

"A Hardy Crew" - Thundrik's Profiteers - Part I

Bjorgen Thundrik and his crew of skyfarers were not the first among the Kharadron Overlords  to search for Shadespire... ~ Games Workshop Welcome to our first miniatures post of 2020 on The Art of Caesura! Last week we started the new year off with something...new. Check out last week's Coma-Community pos t to read about the 2P's Podcast if you're not already familiar with them.  Today we're going back to one of my great loves: Kharadron Overlords! I was hotly anticipating Thundrik's Profiteers when they were first teased by Games Workshop during season 2 of Warhammer Underworlds last year, and now I've finally got around to painting them!! Like all the Warhammer Underworlds gangs that I've painted so far, these were an absolute joy! With two Arkanauts, a Thunderer, a Skywarden and an Aether-Khemist, there is a lot of variety in the miniatures of this set.  I started out with a production line; blocking in all of the base colours. As with
