"The Scariest of the Lot!" - Hallowe'en 2021

We stopped looking for monsters under our beds when we realized that they were inside us. - Charles Darwin Greetings mortals and welcome to this spooky special Hallowe'en post on The Art of Caesura! Autumn is my favourite season and Hallowe'en is (among) my favourite holiday(ies), so it seems only appropriate that we should have a bit of a celebration for it! Last year , I bamBOOzled you with a Hallowe'en pub quiz, this year I'll terrorize you with my top 5 creepiest models that have appeared on the blog thus far! Number 5: The Hybrid Let's cast our minds waaaaaays back to when this blog was just a nascent, amorphous collection - much like this model's head. Indeed, this model was one of the very first that I painted on the blog way back in March 2016! It is still one of the creepiest, the alien head (which I further horrified with its pale, larval pate and wet, glossy finish) not to mention the human head - from which it has just emerged.  Number 4: Preyton Whi

"Violent Faith" - Taddeus the Purifier

Taddeus is a Ministorum Priest  brought to the Blackstone Fortress by a holy vision  seen in the burning remains  of a particularly impertinent Imperial Navyman. - Warhammer Community It's that time of the week again; time for The Art of Caesura! Do your heretics need purging? Then you need to call Taddeus the Purifier! Ol' Tad the Pure (and no, it's not "Thad", though I - along with much of the internet it seems - thought it was T h addeus for the longest time) is the latest member to join the "heroes" plundering the Blackstone Fortress. Taddeus is another character in Blackstone Fortress who has quite a large role in Darius Hinks' tie-in novel of the same name. In the novel, (it's not much of a spoiler because it happens very early on) we learn that he is one of the few characters who has previously already made it deep within the Blackstone Fortress and so, in the current timeline of the story, Janus Draik employs him as a guide of sorts.  I w

"Delicious Memories" - Dahyak Grekh

Through eating many unfortunate inhabitants  of the fortress and thus assuming their memories,  Grekh has learned much of the mysteries within… - Warhammer Community Hello again one and all and welcome back to the Art of Caesura! Whereas the last week of Blackstone Fortress minis, I was outside of my zone of proximal development (to lay some educational terms on ya!) painting UR-025 using techniques that I don't use all the time, today's model was quite the opposite.  My painting style often lives in the realm of desaturated colours, and that is the sphere that today's model inhabits. Today we're looking at the Kroot mercenary, Dahyak Grekh Once upon a time I fancied collecting a T'au army, not for their big Mecha-style suits, but for their infantry. And while the Fire Warriors are cool and all, the Kroot are really where it's at. I would not be at all surprised to see the T'au auxiliary forces fleshed out in the coming years - I mean, the Vespid need A LOT

Autumn Reading List - 2021

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. - Dr. Seuss Hello! Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! It's that time of year again! The leaves are changing, there's a crispness in the air, and the season of having to mow the lawn every week is behind us. I love autumn. And as we cozy in from the cold, why not grab a good book? As I have done for the past couple years ( 2019 , 2020 ), today I shall present you with a book from each genre (fiction, non-fiction and graphic novel) which I have read and thoroughly enjoyed in the past year.  Fiction:   The Lies of Locke Lamora (2006) - Scott Lynch I remember standing in Monro's Bookstore over ten years ago, looking for a book for my brother's birthday when an employee came up, pulled this one out and handed it to me, asking if I'd read it. When I confessed that I hadn't, his eyes bulged and he launched into a spirited description of the nuanced world in

Saoirse's Second Birthday

Welcome to another celebratory post on The Art of Caesura! Last week the champagne was flowing for the 300th post of The Art of Caesura! This week the confetti is flying for the 2nd birthday of my eldest daughter, Saoirse. A few weeks ago (on August 20th) I mentioned that it was my daughter's second birthday, but that we had to postpone the party because she was a bit under the weather. Well, we finally got the gang together to celebrate in style! My parents are visiting from Canada, and my in-laws came down from both sides of the country for a rare meeting of the tribes! One of Saoirse's favourite things in the world is "The Wheels on the Bus" so, armed only with an osmotic knowledge from watching many season of "The Great British Bakeoff", and enthusiasm; I endeavoured to make a "Wheels on the Bus" cake.  I was happy with how it turned out, and Saoirse was delighted, and recognized it as a bus, so that's a success in my books.  She was spoi
