Through eating many unfortunate inhabitants
of the fortress and thus assuming their memories,
Grekh has learned much of the mysteries within…
Hello again one and all and welcome back to the Art of Caesura!
Whereas the last week of Blackstone Fortress minis, I was outside of my zone of proximal development (to lay some educational terms on ya!) painting UR-025 using techniques that I don't use all the time, today's model was quite the opposite.
My painting style often lives in the realm of desaturated colours, and that is the sphere that today's model inhabits. Today we're looking at the Kroot mercenary, Dahyak Grekh
Once upon a time I fancied collecting a T'au army, not for their big Mecha-style suits, but for their infantry. And while the Fire Warriors are cool and all, the Kroot are really where it's at. I would not be at all surprised to see the T'au auxiliary forces fleshed out in the coming years - I mean, the Vespid need A LOT of love.
Anyway, that's all to say that I think Kroot are super cool and Dahyak Grekh being the most recent model for them, makes him the coolest!
In the tie-in novel, Grekh is a badass, and one of the only heroes who can navigate the labyrinthine corridors of the Blackstone Fortress (by consuming its denizens and absorbing their memories).
I started Grekh with mostly muted base tones, aside from his alien rifle (what is it even made out of!?) and the wrapping thereupon.
Base Colours (photos above):
Skin: Deathworld Forest
Cloak: Doombull Brown
Wrappings (feet / waist - is this called 'webbing'?): Steel Legion Drab + Abbadon Black + Athonian Camoshade (1:1:1)
Rifle: Ushabti Bone
Rifle Wrapping: Talassar Blue + Altdorf Guard Blue (2:1)
Steel: Leadbelcher
Gold: Retributor Armour
Shades:
Skin and Wrappings: Athonian Camoshade
Cloak, Rifle and Gold: Agrax Earthshade
Steel: Nuln Oil
Highlights:
As usual for my desaturated highlights, I typically just mix the base tone with more and more Ushabti Bone.
Then it was just his base that remained. To see how I've done my Blackstone bases, check out this post.
Now, let's look at some appropriately atmospheric photos of Dahyak Grekh stalking through the shadows...
I'm looking forward to laying some nasty traps with this guy in the game when my wife and I start up our campaign again. I hope you enjoyed checking out Dahyak Grekh here on The Art of Caesura!
