"Face Paint" - Sword Bro Head - Painting

All is deceit.  Nothing wears a true face  or uses a true name. - Dan Abnett  Hello and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I hope you are all doing well and are enjoying / have enjoyed the sneak peeks from Games Workshop via their online Warhammer Fest over the past few days (at time of writing we're still a couple days out).  Today is part 2 of a three part series looking at my first Black Templars Sword Brother. Last week you saw me sculpt hair for the first time, and this week we'll look at painting his pretty face! Above is where we'll end up, and below is where we left off next week - looking like the Joker with his green locks.  I start by painting his skin 3:1 Cadian Fleshtone : Wraithbone using several thin coats.  I then shade around the eyes, nose and lower cheeks by glazing in a mix with more Cadian Fleshtone. I missed photographing a few steps, but I then mix in a bit of S75 African Shadow into my Cadian/Wraithbone mix and glaze this around the eyes and lower

"Do the Do" - Sword Brethren - Sculpting Hair

Don't waste a good hair day.   Hello friends of the Caesura, welcome to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! My goodness! Unlike last year, where we stayed laser-focused on Reichbusters and Blackstone Fortress, this year I've returned to my more natural ENFP state of being - fliting from one exciting thing to the next! Already this year, we've seen my first experience of a mini painting workshop , my first attempts at painting in 1:1 scale ; we've had Nurgle , we've had my return to Black Templars ...and MORE! Today we return again to Black Templars, but not as you know them. I'm going to show you one of my first efforts at sculpting hair on a model! I love almost all of the new Black Templars releases and indeed, their hairdos. I even like the squirely bowl-cuts on the Neophytes which have garnered many dissenters (my wife included). However, there is one head that I am not a fan of; it's the Baldy 'Stache. I get what they were going for - the guy on t

"Manufactorum Mania" - Barrels and Ammo Boxes

Populate a starport or armorium district  with imposing cargo containers. Also includes promethium barrels and supply crates! - Games Workshop Happy Good Friday, and welcome to The Art of Caesura! Today we're changing gears once again from last week's look at my hobby room progress. Terrain is on the menu for today; specifically the terrain that I got in Imperium Magazine a few weeks ago.  "Who cares about terrain?" I hear you ask (well actually you probably wouldn't be asking that if you're into the miniature hobby). It turns out the answer is many people. One of my previous terrain posts was the most popular post of its year ! I aspire to bring my Black Templars to Kill Team at some point so these barrels and boxes will make nice scatter terrain.  Rather than my usual Chaos Black primer, which gives a nice smooth finish, I used an old black primer I had, which I like to use for added texture. On most models the texture it adds would be a disaster - obscurin

"Making Room" - Hobby Room / Office

Welcome one and all to another Friday on The Art of Caesura!   Spring has sprung! And it's time to tell you about a little spring cleaning (or sprucing) that I've been doing. As I mentioned in this year's blog birthday post , one of my goals for the year is to create an awesome hobby space. After having bought our first house a few months ago, my wife and I are finally able to put our mark on a place. I wanted to turn one of the generic off-white rooms into a modern hobby space / office with an industrial flare.  I should hasten to add, that I had never done anything like this before. Prior to this project, I hadn't had the opportunity to hone any "handyman" skills. All that was about to change! Starting from an uninspired off-white, I decided to go for a nice deep, dark colour ( Ralston's Bog Oak , if you're interested). I left the sample on the wall for a week or two. Gazing into its depths, as if gazing into a portal of things to come.  I finally go
