"Get Off My Sump-Lawn" - The Deserter

None know the Deserter's identity,  but his tattoos mark him as a veteran  of the legendary Necromundan 8th.  The crazy old soldier lives downhive in a booby-trapped warren,  and there are few individuals as talented  when it comes to laying traps or setting ambushes. ~ Games Workshop Hi friends, welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Man, I just cannot get away from Necromunda! Usually I'm a hobby butterfly, moving on from one game after about a month or so and coming back a few months later. But wow, I am just loving Necromunda! Pandora's box was first opened by painting my first gang, The Unkindness , but now I've been really enjoying painting a host of characterful Hired Guns. Today we have the second of those: The Deserter. I wasn't crazy about this crazy old man at first, I felt his inturned toes looked a bit cartoony. But as I got in to building and painting him, the theme of an old recluse holed up in his own little part of the Underhive won m

Autumn Reading List

The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. In Search of Lost Time - Marcel Proust Hey Caesurians, welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Today I have a bit of an interjection into our regularly scheduled Necromunda content... One of my goals for this year on the blog was to incorporate some posts about the books I'm constantly reading. Many people do a "Summer Reading List" but with autumn starting on Monday(!) and with autumn being my favourite season, what better time to cozy up with a good book than now! For my first Autumn Reading List, I'm going to try to restrain myself to one fiction, one non-fiction and one graphic novel that I have read in the past year.  Fiction A Gentleman in Moscow (2016) - Amor Towles I came to this novel not knowing anything about the setting, Russia in the 1920's when the aristocracy was being thrown out by the Bolsheviks under Lenin following the Octobe

"From the Halcyon Dawn" - Yar Umbra II

Darkness is also an environment Yar knows well,  and with his custom maw-pattern long las,  even a flicker of movement is enough for the void-born sniper to bring down his prey. ~ Lexicanum Hello, and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! If you didn't get a chance to check out last week's post I would urge you to do so; in it I discussed the choice of head-swap for this awesome void-born sniper. Today, I'd like to talk about the painting process.  I started by planning out the colours. As I mentioned last week, although I was using a Delaque head-swap, I really didn't want him to look just like a Delaque ganger. I tried to distance him from Delaque, by inverting his skin tone - giving him dark skin (to pull away from Delaque's eerily pale skin). I painted his mask white to contrast the skin and draw the eye to his face. Black and red are a combo I love ( as seen in my guitar, Vlad ) and so, wanting to move away from the browns of the box-a

"Void-Born" - Yar Umbra I

Yar Umbra is a void-born Necromundan Bounty Hunter who was forced to take up the trade  after he was intentionally marooned  on Hive Primus by a deck master of the chartist vessel Halcyon Dawn. - Lexicanum Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Last week we finished off the coverage of my first Necromunda Gang: The Unkindness. Today, we're sticking with Necromunda, but moving on to a Hired Gun: Yar Umbra.  Today's post is a short one - I'm still working on this guy - but wanted to show you an important conversion I made. I bought this model at Warhammer Fest  a couple months ago. I really like almost everything about this model, but wasn't crazy about his head - and unfortunately that's kind of his main bit! In his story, he was marooned on Necromunda when his ship left without him, some say the reason behind this was related to whatever he's hiding under his mask.  The "Scarecrow" burlap aesthetic is cool, but I didn't love th
