"Fire and Brimstone" - Brimstone Horrors

Savage little sprites formed from living fire,  these diminuitive Daemons leap and crackle  as they worry at their enemies' shins and  set fire to their battle-garb White Dwarf Hey all!  Thanks for joining me for  The Art of Caesura! I hope you all had a great week! I had the week off and it's been bliss! Not a whole ton of time for painting, but I did get a few little fiery dudes done. I love these little guys model-wise and in the game. In the game it's fun having the Blue Horrors explode into these little guys who look super angry and evil for their stature. Small man complex.  These guys were actually pretty quick to get going. I looked at a few things for inspiration including a video Kris (from miniwargaming.com ) and just rolled with it.  The fun part of painting the Brimstone Horrors was that painting fire is kind of the opposite of painting other things. Where I would usually start with a dark colour in the crevices for shadow and work

"Your Friendly Neighbourhood..." - Grot Scuttlings

Grot Scuttlings infest the Silver Tower's dark depths. They are wily and tribal, half-arachnid beings whose poisons and webs are the bane of the unwary. Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower Hey gang, welcome to another Friday and to another Art of Caesura! I know that I teased at the end of last week's post that I was going to talk about the tasting and judgement of my Night Watchman Porter. And while I did crack open my first bottle there on Tuesday, I also managed to get a good bit of painting done this past week. So, if it's all the same to you, I think I'm going to stick with minis for the next couple of weeks to keep up with the momentum of Silver Tower and then I can give my thorough thoughts on my Porter in a few weeks' time.  I wanted to ease myself into Silver Tower painting, so I started with something familiar: Goblins (well, Grot Scuttlings to be pedantic). Coming from an Orcs and Goblins background (and anyone who's been th

"Back to Bases" - Silver Tower Bases

Without a solid foundation, you'll have trouble creating anything of value Hey dudes and dudettes, welcome back to another week of The Art of Caesura! So I haven't had a chance to talk to you guys too much about Silver Tower. It's a blast! My fiance and I replayed the first task because we were in the small percentage of people who were affected by the "glitch" that was errataed within the first day of release (basically our first game ended sooner than it should have - but we'd still had a wildly good time). So we just restarted, but kept all our renown points.  By God, the second play-through was intense! We had three boss fights due to unexpected events happening. I almost died (twice!) but we managed to scrape through. I just can't emphasize enough that it's the most fun with a "board game" that I've had in years. Today I want to talk about my bases. You may recall that I was pondering buying Secret Weapon ba

Killarney Beer Fest 2016

Here's to a long life  and a merry one. A quick death  and and easy one. A pretty girl and an honest one. A cold beer and another one! Hey all! Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I hope you've all had fun weeks - I sure have! When the weather is nice in Ireland, full advantage is taken of it! We've been swimming in the Atlantic at Banna Strand and drinking cider on our front lawn (patch of grass) in the blissfully long evenings after work.  Last weekend was the second ever Killarney Beer Fest. It was a total blast! 150 beers on tap from all over Ireland. All the vendors were really friendly (and very generous with their tastings!) I wanted to only try beers I had never come across before so I avoided my usual go-tos (Killarney Brewing Co., Stonewell Cider, Torc, Trouble Brewing). A couple of beers that stood out were: The White Hag's - Irish Heather Ale (Gruit Ale)  In lieu of hops, they use heather from a nearby mountainside in Sligo (Benbul
