"New Recruits" - Oathsworn Allies - Part 2

As you traverse the twisting tale of the game  you will meet individuals along the way  who you may wish to requisition  for the cause or who will lend their aid willingly. -  Shadowborne Games   Hello and welcome to another week of The Art of Caesura! As usual, on this Winter Friday, I'm sending out positive vibes to you all across the world from this little corner of Ireland. Take some and pass them on. Last week we examined my painting process for the allies of Oathsworn, this week we look at the completed quadret in all their glory.  I think these models really worked well with the gritty, desaturated style that resonates with me.  My wife and I have taken a break from our Oathsworn campaign for a little while now, but will have to get back into it to give our heroes an opportunity to die so that these allies can have their 60 seconds in the limelight! I almost feel guilty for not having painted any highlights (aside from the dings on the metal) but, ultimately, I think they l

"Shoulder to Shoulder" - Oathsworn Allies - Part 1

There is at least one thing worse than fighting with allies -  and that is to fight without them. - Winston Churchill It's Friday, which means that it's time for The Art of Caesura! I hope you are feeling fulfilled and if not, why not try to set aside half an hour to accomplish a small task that you have been putting off?  Anyway, this isn't about life coaching, it's about painting minis! So let's get to it! Last week we briskly painted a bunch of lovely stone walls for Oathsworn: into the Deepwood. This week we're looking at some of the allies that can help you out if one of your heroes gets eaten / trampled / vomited upon or myriad other unwelcome demises that the Deepwood may hold.  My wife and I have currently played through the first 2 chapters and the story portion of chapter 3. We have yet to lose any of our heroes, but we've gotten pretty close on a few occasions! A helpful mechanic in Oathsworn is that if your hero dies during an encounter they are

"Build a Wall" - Oathsworn Walls

All in all you're just another  brick in the wall.  - Another Brick in the Wall , Pink Floyd  Hi-dee-ho neighbors! I hope this Friday finds you well, and that you're pickin' up the positive vibes that I'm sending your way! Today's post is...well...it's possible that it's not the most riveting subject matter today (especially after the Wyrm that we've been looking at over the past few weeks). But it's no less important to the atmosphere of the game! Today we're looking at some of the terrain that comes with Oathsworn: the walls! I painted these walls quickly, using several tricks to speed things along. I will draw your attention back to a post that I made just over a year ago about the importance of being able to shift gears in painting. It is great to lavish hours over each detail of a lovely model (as I like to do for my Black Templars characters). But, in my mind, it is also vital to be able to whip up a quick paint job, that you are happy w

"Echoing Terror" - Oathsworn Chapter 3 - Wyrm - Part 2

The most terrifying thing about the  craw wurm is probably  the horrible crashing sound it makes as it speeds through the forest. This noise is so loud it echoes through the trees and seems to come from all directions at once. Craw Wurm , Magic the Gathering.  Welcome back to a particularly unsettling post on The Art of Caesura! Before we begin, I hope you had a great week and are pumped for the weekend. I'm sending positive thoughts, especially if you need them today! ***Note on Spoilers: This model is one of the poster-boys of Oathsworn. It has been used in promotional content for the game prior to release. It is one of the few bosses NOT considered to be a spoiler (along with the  Broodmother , and a few others).  Last week we looked at how I painted the boss from chapter 3 of Oathsworn: into the Deepwood - the giant wyrm! This week we're going to let it flourish in its natural environment of darkness. Sometimes, no matter what I try, minis don't translate well to photo.
