"Tank Shock!" - Impulsor - Part 2

Benefiting from the same advanced  gravitic-impulsion technology  employed by the heavier Repulsor-class chassis,  the Impulsor boasts vectored thrusters  that offer the it far greater manoeuvrability. - Games Workshop Last week , we left off after my Impulsor had just taken some battle damage in its first few games of Combat Patrol. Today it's back to the manufactorum to fix up the damage and finish painting some of the details (including the gunner's head and the various computer screens) to bring the model up to completion.  I started with the damaged decal but I never really paint free-hand. Even scroll-work is a bit of a stretch sometimes. Luckly, where the decal had rubbed off, it left a bit of a residue on the tank that was visible at certain angles. I used this as my outline. I diluted some of Kimera's White so that it would flow nicely off the brush. I then followed the outline of the Maltese Cross... ...before just filling the rest of it in.  Not too shabby if I d

"A Change in Momentum" - Primaris Impulsor - Part 1

The Impulsor is a lightly armoured,  fast-moving assault transport  favoured by Vanguard Space Marine forces. - Games Workshop Do you know how sometimes you paint a model up to a certain point and then leave it there saying "I'm happy enough with it now, I can always come back to it later to finish the details" and then you never actually come back to it? Well this time I actually came back to it!!! This is the story of my Impulsor.  Up until I (re)completed my Land Raider Crusader last year, I was kind of scared of taking on such a big project as a tank. But then, with the LRC, I found that really all the steps are exactly the same as with my normal dudes, it's just over a larger canvas. So, buoyed by my experience - and wanting to play more Combat Patrol games without having to borrow a tank from a friend - I launched into painting my Impuslor.  My kit was actually for a gladiator, so I was careful when building (and magnetizing) it to allow for easy swapping betwe

"Ferocious" - High Marshal Helbrecht - Part 3 - Complete

The galaxy is the Emperor's,  and anyone or anything who challenges that claim  is an enemy who must be destroyed. - High Marshal Helbrecht Hello again, welcome back one and all to The Art of Caesura! Over the past few weeks we have been looking at painting Helbrecht and his Servitors. This week we add the finishing touches and having a look at the completed model under my work-in-progress daylight bulbs ahead of his proper showcase next week.    Miniatures can look very different under different lighting and, while I usually reserve the pictures of the completed models for the atmospheric shots, for such an iconic miniature that I spent a good deal of time and effort on, I thought I would first showcase him the way he looks while painting him - under my bright daylight bulbs.  Even pictures taken in the same environment but with different exposure settings can look quite different - as the images above and below can attest.  In the image above, you can see a few more scratches on

"We Live to Serve" - Helbrecht - Part 2 - Servitors

High Marshal Helbrecht is accompanied  by two attendant thralls,  one of which carries his powerful combi-melta, Ferocity,  while the other wipes clean  the Sword of the High Marshals. - Games Workshop Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Last week we started our look at the epic leader of the Black Templars, High Marshal Helbrecht! We managed to cover all of the painting of Helbrecht himself (as well as the poor unfortunate Ork on his base) so today we'll turn our attention to his servitors. They have quite a different palate than the big man himself - I painted them in muted cold tones to contrast his warm golden armour. Luckily there wasn't much fear of them drawing attention away from an 8 foot golden giant! I also wanted Helbrecht's weapons to stand out against the servitors so I kept these dudes quite neutral.  From a zenithal undercoat (spray black then spray off-white from 45 degrees above), I painted their clothes Contrast Space Wolves Grey.  I lov
