"Ford of the Heroes" - Meelin Hill

In the Ford of the Heroes there he lies, brave Tom Crean noble son of Annascaul "Ode to Tom Crean" - Brigid O Connor Hello hello, step in to the warmth of The Art of Caesura! You may recall that one of my New Year's Resolutions for the blog was to bring more of the lifestyle stuff into the blog. As you can see, I've failed miserably thus far, with only 2 non-miniature related posts all year!! So, today we're going to change all that! I want to show you a hike that my wife and I went on a few weeks ago in ancient Annascaul. Annascaul means "River of Shadows" or "Ford of the Heroes" and is a town about half an hour from home, and when I say it's ancient, I mean ANCIENT!! For starters it's where a bunch of tectonic plates collided and they have found 380 million year old fossilized sand dunes there, as well as the footprints of one of the very first land animals on Earth! In slightly more recent history, Anna

"Another Prestigious Cabinet" - Display Cabinet

Your art is not about how many people like your work your art is about if your heart likes your work if your soul likes your work it's about how honest you are with yourself and you must never trade honesty with relatability Milk and Honey - Rupi Kaur Heyo Friendlies and Welcome to the Art of Caesura! So, I've returned from my holi-me-days on the West Coast of Canada and am back to the old grind (well, the "new" grind really, as I've moved and started a new job!)  On our way back from the airport we stopped at Ikea and...I picked up a display cabinet for my miniatures!! I've always found it a bit deflating spending hours on a beautiful (or gruesome) model only to then put it in a big cardboard box on top of a closet in the spare room rarely to be seen again.  For the past few years my wonderful wife has wanted to get me a nice display case, but because we're moving so frequently for work it's never been the r

"Fee-fi-fo-fum!" - Warhammer Giant

He snores and eats all our gobbos, but dat big lug is handy in a fight! ~ Orc Warlord Grizgutz Badax Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! So I'm still on holiday at the moment. I'm visiting my family in Canada and it's been a few years since I've been back. While I'm back in my childhood house I've been going through a lot of my old stuff including my old miniatures. I thought it would be fun to look at some of the first models that I painted.  Having looked at the very first miniature that I ever painted last week, lets look at one of my better efforts from that period: Wee Wendell, The old metal Warhammer Giant! This was always one of my favourite "miniatures". He is oozing with character, both in the model and on the tabletop (I love the randomness of the giant attack-table, and the template in the back of the army book for when he fell down! Plus, he's hefty - he's nearly solid metal! I remember that that made hi

"My First Model" - Genestealer

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step Hi friends! Welcome to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! We're going to mix things up today with a super special post today: the first miniature that I ever painted!! In the real world, I'm on holiday back to my family home for a few weeks at the moment. In addition to going through all my old books, CDs, VHS, and magic cards, I've found a bunch of my old models.  This week we're going to cut right to the core with the first mini I ever painted.  About 20 years ago when I was about 12, I painted this guy in a Games Workshop. I still remember industriously painting the carapace blue and fleshy bits purple. Gotta love the bright green, flocked bases that were all the rage back then. Even then I delighted in the little details like the eyes and tongue. I didn't have gloss varnish back then... I would love to grab a new genestealer and paint it to my cur
