Magically reforged with the thunderous power of a god,
immortal, proud and strong, the Liberators are the hammer of Sigmar
in human
form, hurled down from the skies
with the blistering force necessary to shatter
the rule of Chaos.
G'morning, and welcome to The Art of Caesura!
While listening to my Redeemer Ale bubble and ferment away, I've been busily painting away all week.
Whenever I go to a new place I like to check out their Games Workshop. I live 2 and a half hours away from the nearest GW (and about 2 hours from the nearest FLGS) so it's a bit of a novelty for me. My fiance and I were in Amsterdam just over a week ago and while she was culturally taking in the Anne Frank House, I was culturally taking in the nearby Games Workshop (before you roast me - I'd been to the Frank house before, and found it a bit too moving to return to).
Anyway I had some great chats with Steven at that shop and ended up dropping a couple of euro on the "getting started with Age of Sigmar magazine" and (more importantly the free Liberator model that it came with).
In the past year and a bit since AoS came out I've been avidly following it, but have bought hardly any models and I was eager to try my hand at a Stormcast Eternal.
When I was young, I remember seeing a golden space marine done Roman-style with a spear and a shield (I wish I could find a picture of that guy). And ever since then I've wanted to paint a space marine gold. This is the closest I've come:
Well...I actually wanted to try something a little bit different, and used Hashut Copper instead. I used a mix of Aldorf blue and goblin green for his shoulders and shield and even used a lighter wash of this mix as verdigris around all his rivets.
I remember for the first couple of years after the Tau came out for Warhammer 40k the zeitgeist was to paint them all pristine. I feel the same trend has happened with the Stormcast Eternals. Maybe it's the orc in me, but I've always like a bit of weathering and battle-damage to my models. I like a bit of grime.
With that in mind I added some "dings" to this guy's armour, dirtied and dulled his armour down a bit, and gave him a nice splattering of Blood for the Blood God (including a huge droplet of ichor hanging from his hammer).
I hope you enjoyed my first foray into the most archetypal Age of Sigmar model out there.
