"The Big Leagues" - Warhammer 40k Gaming League

Success is not a goal to reach  or a finish line to cross. It is a system to improve, and endless process to refine. - James Clear Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Last week we took a look at some of the changes to Black Templars with the new Codex. This week we're going to put it all together for something exciting which is just beginning: my first league! The Guild Hall, our Friendly Local Gaming Store, is running its first Warhammer 40k Gaming League, and I've entered! Yes me - the consummate painter! I am probably mad; life is already crazy enough, I've only played 3 games in the past year, I don't really know the rules, I don't have a 2000 point army painted...but there's no time like the present (and other such platitudes). So, today I'm going to share TWO lists with you. The first list (aptly named "League Starting List") is exactly that. It is as close to the list that I would actually like to be running (which is the second list below)...

"Righteous Crusaders" - New Black Templars Stuff and Strategies

"Accept any challenge no matter the odds!" Black Templars Codex Hello and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I'm sending loads of positivity your way, especially if you need it today! Today we're changing gears a bit. I had meant for this post to come out last week, but that was before I had realized that I had neglected the poor Emberling .  So a few weeks ago now at this point, my beloved Black Templars (the army that I have played since 3rd edition of Warhammer 40k - which is now in its 10th edition!) received a revamp! New codex (which brought all new rules, new points, new style of play), new models, new dice, new Combat Patrol .  For someone like me, who historically has only got a game in every 6 months or so (that's about to change - tune back in next week!) and who has many (MANY) other hobby interests, the new rules are very exciting but also met with some trepidation of investing the time to relearn everything.  Well, I have started investing the time...

"Growing Flames" - Dragon Eclipse - Young Emberling - Part 2

Their origin land is said to be eastern deserts although Emberlings can now be found almost anywhere.   - Dragon Eclipse Gamefound Hello again! Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Oh me, oh my! I've gotten all confused and mixed up! This post was (obviously) supposed to follow my work-in-progress post about this guy a few weeks ago, but instead I jumped right ahead to the Iceling! Oh well, better late than never.  Today I finally bring you some of the atmospheric shots of the Young Emberling from Dragon Eclipse.  I have mentioned before that, with my set-up, I find it a bit tricky to photograph very warm models (those comprising of lots of red, oranges and yellows). Enter today's model! Despite my efforts of re-balancing the colours and exposure a bit in post-production, it still looks a little blown-out. Ah well, c'est la vie! Thank you once again for joining me on my weekly meanderings around a model. I'll see you next week for more, right here on The Art of Caesura! ...

"Freeze!" - Dragon Eclipse - Young Iceling - Part 2

Icelings who leave the snowy mountaintops  are some of the bravest and most outgoing creatures. - Dragon Eclipse Gamefound Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Today we're looking at the atmospheric photos of the model I was painting in the last post: the Young Iceling! I mentioned last week that this will be my starting Mystling when my wife and I get around to playing Dragon Eclipse. Maybe by the time we get around to it, my daughters will be old enough to play too! I'm really happy with how this guy turned out. I especially love the contrast between his eye and the rest of his body. Also I think the separation between his skin and icy, crystalline components worked well.  I thoroughly enjoyed painting these two Mystlings! I really had planned to paint a whole bunch of them...but other models caught my attention... Tune in next Friday on The Art of Caesura! "Ice Cold!" - Dragon Eclipse - Young Iceling - Part 1

Icelings are predominantly reclusive creatures,  but some of them cultivate curiosity that springs in their hearts.  - Dragon Eclipse Gamefound Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! First off, I'm sending loads of positive vibes your way, especially if you need them today!  Second off, I'm so sorry, avid readers; this post is a bit late (one of the first times in the blog's history). And the more annoying this is that I actually had it done, I just forgot actually hit "post". Anyway, it's here now, no harm no foul.  For the past two weeks we've been looking at one of the starter Mystlings for the new game Dragon Eclipse. This week we're looking at the other one: Young Iceling! I mentioned before, that my wife would be taming Young Emberling for her starter Mystling, so this one is mine! From an Electric Blue base coat, I painted his skin with Nighthaunt Gloom. I then gave more definition to the crystalline bits (nose, head frill, wings, belly) with Contr...
