"Queen Victoria's Doppelganger" - Suzanne Taylor

Given the sheer number of threats facing Her Majesty on a daily basis, a lookalike seemed like an excellent ruse to ensure her safety... The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch Greetings Fellows all, and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I hope you're enjoying this close look at the World of Smog minis as much as I'm enjoying painting them. I was going to take a break from them this week and post a couple beer related articles just to mix things up a bit, but I've actually been getting some really nice feedback on these guys, so I think we'll keep the momentum going for the final three of them! This week it's Queen Victoria's personal aide and lookalike: Suzanne Taylor. It's a great model, appropriately static and stoic, basically of Queen Victoria holding a massive steampunk Gatling gun (or multi-barreled rifle anyway). I looked up a bunch of pictures of Ol' Vicky for inspiration. Many paintings have her in black, but at this smal...

"Under the Kilt" - John Brown

John Brown has served in every major military campaign in recent history, from India to South Africa to China and the Second Opium War. It was in this last were he was  captured, imprisoned, and tortured until released by the automaton hordes that ultimately won the war. He is the consummate soldier, possessed of an iron will and steely resolve The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch Welcome back gentles all to The Art of Caesura! Continuing our look at the Gentlemen of The World of Smog, this week we have John Brown - the Scottish double-amputee general.  When I set out to paint this model, I vowed to myself that I really wanted to try my (free) hand at painting tartan (I mean, how often do you get to do that). I could have copped out and painted the kilt and sash a solid colour, but where's the challenge in that!? So I looked at loads of photos for inspiration: I do not own this image... And really wanted to incorporate one awesome p...

"Home-ward Bound" - Sir Daniel Home

It has been twenty years since  spiritism's  recognition by scientific bodies, allowing the dead to serve as witness is legal matters. Mediums often make a good living by serving as host to spirits called to the stand. But none can match the prowess of Sir Daniel Home. Sir Daniel's talents allow him to compel a spirit to speak the truth, a rare gift indeed. The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch Great to have you back for another week of The Art of Caesura! Okay friends, I have to admit it: I've caught the bug again. The first 6 minis that I posted on this blog were from the fantastic Victorian horror-steampunk World of Smog board game. Since then, we've had a lot of variety with Malifaux, Age of Sigmar, Silver Tower, and Conan the Barbarian (in addition to the regular beer brewing features). But, after painting Master Fox last week, I've been working furiously on some of the other full-body sculpts of the characters from this world.  Aft...

"Foxy" - Master Fox

Banished from Faerie by Master Crow for a breach of confidence, Master Fox found London to his liking, although the reverse was not always true... The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch Kickstarter Hello friends, and welcome back to another week of The Art of Caesura! The first few models that I posted on this blog were from a board game called The World of Smog: On Her Majesty's Service. While the models in this game are mostly busts of steam-punk Victorian "gentlemen" and "agents of the Shadow master," they also released full body sculpts. The model of the week is just such a sculpt, and timely too because these minis are making a huge resurgence with the Kickstarter for the follow up game (The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch) just having closed earlier this week. Back in October I had already started gushing about this follow-up Kickstarter, so you can rest assured that I have backed the follow-up as well.  On to the model of the week, Master...
