"Spirits of the Nightvault" - Thorns of the Briar Queen - Part I

This horde of Chainrasps is bound eternally to the will of the Briar Queen. At her wailed command they either flock to her side or surge outwards in search of new victims  upon whom she can sate her malice. - Games Workshop Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! These guys didn't quite make it in time for Hallowe'en, but they have now materialized! I bought Beastgrave (the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds) as soon as it came out, but tasked myself with completing the miniatures from Nightvault prior to opening it. I finished Stormsire's Cursebreakers ages ago , but for the ghosties - it's been a long wait! Two weeks ago we looked at how I have been painting my Moonclan Grots using only Contrast Paints so far. This week I wanted to see what I could accomplish using a combination of Contrast and Conventional paints. This was a fun exercise because it involved a lot of colour matching. Onwards! I started by undercoating the models with Imperial Primer...

"Small But Mighty" - Dwarf Lord with Great Weapon

We sons of Grungni may have drunk deep from the bitter waters of misfortune,  but we yet survive.  Whilst a single Dwarf draws breath,  we will fight the evils that assail us,  and we will never, ever give up. - Hengist Stonebelly Welcome longbeards and beardlings to The Art of Caesura! With our gaze turned back to the Mortal Realms, and last week's look at the million goblins that I'm chipping away at, it seemed like a good opportunity to paint a dwarf to balance out all the goblins! In an effort to regain some of my sanity after all those gobbos, it was nice to paint ONE highly detailed model.  I don't actually know where I got this guy from - probably an old ebay purchase - and all I could find out about the model itself is that it was called "Dwarf Lord with Great Weapon". What I do know though, is that it is probably one of my favourite all-time dwarf models!! I know, fightin' words! Pre-shades. I just think this m...

"One Thick Coat" - Battle for Skull Pass Grots - Part II (Contrast Paints)

Can the stoic dwarfs, led by Godri Thunderbrand,  fend off the greenskin invaders and save the fledgling settlement of Karak Grom? Or will the banner of the Crooked Moon boys fly high above Skull Pass? Battle for Skull Pass - Nathan Long Welcome fellows all to another instalment of The Art of Caesura! We've been looking at Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood over the past couple of weeks, but it is time to return to The Mortal Realms! This week we're going to check back in with a project that I've had simmering away in the background for the past few months - my Night Goblins (Moonclan Grots) from the old Battle For Skull Pass box-set.  When last we left this horde of little buggers I'd just finished cleaning all 80 minis. And, I hasten to remind you that I am not an army painter. Painting five dudes at a time is a lot for me! Anyway, I felt like this would be a project for which Contrast Paints could really come into their own. So lets get caught up on what ...

Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood - Short Story Submission

The witch light is upon us so be wary, be wise.  Today is the day of foul chance and ill omen.  Where malefic forces are in the ascendant  and the Deepwood quivers with anticipation. Kickstarter  Pot's Peace, Oathsworn and welcome back to The Art of Caesura Last week I introduced you to Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood , my latest Kickstarter obsession. Since then the Kickstarter has successfully funded, unlocking all of its stretch goals and looking to make for a very exciting December 2020!  I mentioned last week that Shadowborne Games (the developers of Oathsworn) ran a short story competition during the campaign. I was very lucky to have my story featured during the campaign (you can check it out in it's "published" format here ). It did receive minor censors, so I though I would share it in it's original glory here. Streets of Verum - Credit: Shadowborne Games I gave a rundown of the lore in last week's post , but here's a qu...

The Full Stop - Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood

The monstrous Deepwood has consumed the land.  No farms or fields remain. There is only corruption, rot and the endless shadow of the twisted trees. ~ Shadowborne Games Pot's Peace, Oathsworn. Welcome to The Art of Caesura! What's all this then, TWO posts in one day!? Well yes, you see timing is of the essence here. Today marks the 200th post of The Art of Caesura , so if you haven't had a chance to check out the celebratory post, please do so !  There is also a Kickstarter ongoing at the moment, that I am getting quite excited by, but it closes on Tuesday, so if I left it till next Friday to tell you about it...it would be too late! Hence, in a world first, two hits of The Art of Caesura in one day! Now onward, into the world of Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood ! Credit: Shadowborne Games Nota bene : I am not associated with Shadowborne Games, and am just writing this because it is something that I am genuinely excited about. None of the ...
