Two of my daughters and my mum all have their birthdays in August - so before we ring out the month (and with it, the summer - at least in Ireland!) Well last week we went back in time to a post from 5 years ago that I had completely forgotten about! I had half painted the minis, and taken and edited the photos of  them, but never finished them nor wrote the post. Well, until now!  Now, we're back in present day and I'm trying to complete these 20 little buggers! As I mentioned last week, I was very tempted to just start over with the airbrush and give them a vibrant, sickly green from above and a deep violet from below and then paint in the details. Fasten your seat-belts, because today we're going to hop in the time machine and travel ALLLLLLLL the way back to June 2019 (just over 5 years ago)! I have been painting a LOT of Hellboy on the blog of the past few months. But when I finished last week's Lobster Johnson (which was actually a few months ago at this point) my hobby attention was abruptly caught by something else (which shall appear on the blog at a later date). So I thought that would be the end of Hellboy content until I was next possessed by the urge to paint more paranormal agents.  I have been painting quite a bit in the meantime, but a lot of it isn't quite finished, so I was looking back through my blog drafts (posts that I had started at one stage or other, or had just written the title of as an aide memoir, but have never seen the light of day). No better, no different, than a hundred others  I've killed in my time.  Lobster Johnson: The Burning Hand Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Last week we looked at how cool Lobster Johnson is while I was painting him, this week we get to see how cool he is just standing there!   Although he's mostly black, I feel that the different materials turned out okay - the leather of his boots vs the fabric of his clothes vs his metallic helmet and gun. I'm especially proud of the blue "claw" logo on his chest. I think it retained a lot of its vibrancy.  His eyes also pierce the darkness and contrast the blue nicely.  With the completed model you can only kind of tell that I forgot to finish his lower face (I had intended to highlight it, but the single coat of Guilliman Flesh actually did quite a nice job).  And with The Lobster complete, that's the last of the Hellboy heroes that I've painted, you'll just have to see what's coming up next on The Art of ...

Where greed and the occult walk hand in hand,  where mobsters and monsters prowl the streets,  none escape the justice of Lobster Johnson! The Satan Factory Welcome Hellboys (and girls) to another Friday on The Art of Caesura!  I promise this isn't exclusively a Hellboy blog, but I sure have painted a lot of it this year! Today is a special one: Lobster Johnson! I honestly don't know what I find so cool about Lobster Johnson, but I just think he's awesome. I mean, look at him in that iconic "Doom 1" pose above! The few stories that I have read with him in them, he is a bit of a side character, but this just adds to his mystique. I think his model is really cool especially when he's not in a classic super hero pose.  From a zenithal undercoat, I started with Black Templar, before painting his icon and scarf Talassar Blue... ...and his pouches Snakebite Leather.
