Prince August - Toy Soldier Factory

Casting a soldier takes about 5 minutes.  The process is very easy to pick up  and even children can become  proficient casters in less than an hour.  ~ Prince August Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! This post has been a long time coming, but I was finally given the extra push by a recent TableTop Gaming Podcast which (to my amazement) discussed this very topic! Today we're talking about a hidden gem in the Irish country side; no, it's not a stone circle ( though we have plenty of those ), it's a miniatures factory called Prince August! According to their own website, Prince August began in 1958 in Sweden, moving to Ireland in 1976. Apparently Prince August products are now sold in 24 countries and they are the world's largest suppliers of casting molds. This is all amazing to me. I first came across them a few years ago. My wife and I always noticed a sign for a "Toy Soldier Factory" way out in the boonies when we would be driving to Cork for our antenata...

"Flame On!" - Reichbusters Flame Sentry Guns

Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. Fire And Ice -  Robert Frost Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I hope you all had a very happy St. Patrick's Day yesterday, and are recovering from your "celebrations"! Today is very much a continuation of last week's post about Reichbuster's vril-powered, quad-cannon sentry guns, but this time there's FIRE! These flamer sentry guns are shorter range, but seemingly no less deadly than their cannon counterparts.  So, unlike last week, I remembered to take a couple photos of the work-in-progress this time! I detailed this quick and dirty paint scheme last week, but to re-cap: I sprayed chaos black, then leadbelcher, then painted on streaking grime and AK's Dark Brown enamel paint... ...then removed much of the paint with white spirit before highlighting the metal with Vallejo Silver. The only differences this time around was that I ...

"BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!" - Vril-Powered, Quad-Cannon Sentry Guns

“Why stand guard when you can get  your machines to do that job for you?”  That’s what the Nazis in charge of  Department 119’s mechanical sentry project thought. - Reichbusters Hey all, welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Today we're taking a little jaunt back to Reichbusters , the game that enjoyably occupied much of this blog last year. We're looking at the < cue echoey, B-movie trailer voice > VRIL-POWERED, QUAD-CANNON SENTRY GUNS!! Like the fun, quick and dirty Vrilpanzer a couple months ago, these sentry guns were a fun exercise in speed painting.  After a spray of Chaos Black and then Leadbelcher, it was straight on to enamels! In fact, the whole process was so speedy that I forgot to take photos of the work-in-progress! Oopsie! After a messy coat of Streaking Grime, I sploged a few areas with AK's Dark Brown paint.  Then it was a quick reduction with white spirit to remove the enamels off the prominent surfaces... ...A gentle dry-brush of Val...

"Plaguey Duder" - Lord of Blights - Complete

A Lord of Blights is a brutish figure  who creates and destroys in equal measure.  Swollen with muscle, he lumbers into the midst  of the foe swinging his bubotic hammer in thunderous arcs.  Every impact shatters bone and ruptures organs,  leaving his victims lying like bruised and rotten fruit on the ground. -  Games Workshop Hello one and all and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I hope you're looking forward to a great weekend. Let's get it off to a good start by admiring the culmination of the past few weeks efforts: the Lord of Blights in all his festering glory.  If you're just joining us, this is the model that I started at Marco Frisoni's workshop a few weeks ago. We have seen the value sketch and then moved on to the colours last week.  To say that I'm happy with how this guy turned out would be an understatement. As I mentioned above, I have already waxed lyrical about the painting process of this guy for a few weeks now, so let's j...
