I felt like painting Brad first because he looks like the archetypal US soldier that we see in the movies. It's like coming full circle to the plastic green army men I played with as a kid.  I didn't do any research about what colour his uniform should be for the era - in a game about assaulting a Nazi castle and blasting monsters infused with alien technology, I'm not exactly worrying about historical accuracy. We're deep in the bowels of Castle Wewelsburg at the moment, last week we looked at some horrifying Nazi Zombies, and this week we're looking at one of the bosses of Reichbusters; it's General Wolff! Like so many models in this game, this one is great! I love all the different textures: the flabby skin, the patent leather, cloth and hard metal of his "throne". I love how his chair has some ornate stylings, while still being largely functional. Perhaps most of all, I love how, rather than wheels, his chair has creepy, stubby little legs! You can just imaging the clinking, clanking and thudding of those legs on the flagstones of Castle Wewelsburg.  I painted Wolffy really quickly; I stuck on Rambo, and by the time the film was finished, the model almost was too! I think I got into some kind of flow state painting...

I gotta give ya credit zombie,  you got no quit in ya! Call of Duty: Black Ops Welcome back, one and all, to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Last week we stood, petrified to the spot, as we saw the Shrieker bearing down on us. This week we'll dial it down a notch and look at some of the more common shambling horrors of Wewelsburg Castle: Nazi Zombies! These models are great! The posture is perfect, and I love how you can see the military fatigues coming out from beneath the Vril reanimator on his back.  ...And their faces. Wow. Eerie. I admit I had to look at the official artwork to make out what was going on, but then you can see the metal eye plate, the Vril light on their foreheads and the tubing going into their mouths. Truly haunting.  Much of the painting of these guys employed the quick and dirty enamel wash technique that I summarised last week.
