300th Post!!!

Welcome one and all to the 300th post on The Art of Caesura!!! Yes indeed, three hundred consecutive weeks of (mostly) hobby-related action over the past five and a half years! It's kind of hard to imagine - by any metric (number of photos per post or number of words per post or number of hours put into each post, multiplied by 300 is quite a lot no matter which way you cut it).  As a tribute to the blog, we're going to celebrate by looking at one hundred photos spanning from now back to the 200th post . And, as an Easter egg for those regular readers, you'll find some images from the future, that haven't yet been posted on the blog. As always, you can click on each picture for a high resolution version.  So sit back, and enjoy these snapshots from the blog as we celebrate 300 posts! Wow! Time flies! It was wonderful to look back and revel again in some of my most beloved miniatures and also to recall some of the miniatures that, frankly, I had forgotten about! Thank yo...

HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ART OF CAESURA!! Three years old! THREE YEARS OLD!! Can you believe it!? Well maybe you can, but I can barely believe it. When I started this little blog three years ago, I didn't know how long I'd be able to keep the weekly pace up, but here we are, 159 posts later and still going strong!! I have all of you to thank for it. I know it sounds cliché  but being several hours from my nearest hobby centre, you guys are my community, and it's your views and comments that help encourage me to keep striving in my hobby. This is always my favourite post of the year, and I hope you enjoy it too! I love it because it gives us a chance to pause (a caesura within The Caesura), look back over all we've accomplished this past year, and gaze to the fun that lies ahead! Let's start with a fancy visual look at the blog: But what does it all mean? Well, compared to last year, we've diversified a bit. I mentioned last year th...

"Small Batch, Big Heart" - Mayne Island Brewery

"Mayne Island is a small, friendly, Canadian Island  positioned about half way between the lower mainland  of British Columbia and Vancouver Island." ~ Mayne Island tourist board It's Friday! It's The Art of Caesura! As I mentioned last week, my wife and I were on the West Coast of Canada this past summer, and whenever we go, we try to explore a new Gulf Island (a group of small islands in the Salish Sea between Vancouver Island and the Mainland). We've had some incredible experiences on those islands, including accidentally camping in a cougar area, swimming in bioluminescence, hiking, cycling, canoeing and all that good stuff.  On our most recent trip we even stumbled across a brewery, and that's where our adventure takes us today. Despite it's name, Mayne Island is actually one of the smaller ones at only 21-square-kilometres and with a resident population of only 1000 people.  We were in the process of cycling across...

"Beer-loving Adventurers" - Phillips Brewery

Inspiration through fermentation. - Phillips Brewery Hey gang, welcome to The Art of Caesura!! We're on a bit of a beer bender this month on the blog. We've busted beer myths , we've looked at some tasty beer and food parings and now we're going to take a quick glance at my favourite brewery from back home on the West Coast of Canada: Phillips Brewery. Before we start, I should probably note - though I hope it's obvious, because I live in Ireland, that I don't work for Phillips, and am not endorsed by them (le sigh). I'm just a fan.  Anyway, my love affair with Phillips began - soon after they opened in 2001 - with a lager. Phillips' Phoenix Lager was sold in short chubby bottles (can you believe, I can't find a photo of those original bottles) and was a fantastic session beer. It was (and still is) a crowd pleasing beer with just enough buttery depth to be interesting but still appealed to the commercial beer crowd. Many a Canada D...
