"The Best of the Best" - Bladeguard Veteran Sergeant

Members of their Chapter’s elite 1st Company Veterans,  each of these vastly experienced Space Marines  has fought to preserve the Imperium across uncounted worlds. - Games Workshop Hello one and all, welcome back to your Friday fix of The Art of Caesura! I mentioned, in the reflective intro to last week's post , that I have been thinking about my underpinning goal for this year.  "Live like the kind of person who is making the most out of their life." I am going to re-word it slightly: "Live like the kind of person who is actively engaged in their life." When I first wrote that goal, I phrased it as "Live like the kind of person who is more in control of their life." It didn't quite get across the feeling I was looking for, neither did the one above that I had amended it too. But after a bit more time and reflection, I think my newly phrased goal most accurately portrays what I am aiming for: to be a more active participant in my life rather than ...

"Master Crafted" - Bladeguard Veterans - Part 1

Bladeguard Veterans are inexorable warriors,  advancing relentlessly with blades held high –  the very image of noble knights of myth. - Games Workshop   Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Twenty twenty-three is a year of improvement for me. I've been reading a bunch of inspiring books with an intention to " live like the kind of person who is making the most of their life ". A paraphrased quote from the current book that I am reading (you can always find my "currently reading / watching / listening list" at the bottom of each post) that has resonated with me is:  If you are in the process of making a difficult decision, ask yourself 'does this decision enlarge me or diminish me, will it help me grow as a person or wear away at my soul. Don't base decisions only on what will make you happier, because perceived happiness is often based on comfort.  And what does this have to do with miniature painting? Oh, nothing.  So, did you catch th...

"Hit that Pause Button" - A Brief Caesura

Anyone can achieve their fullest potential,  who we are might be predetermined,  but the path we follow is always of our own choosing.  We should never allow our fears  or the expectations of others to set the frontiers  of our destiny.  Your destiny can't be changed but,  it can be challenged.  Every man is born as many men and dies as a single one. ― Martin Heidegger Welcome to The Art of Caesura! Happy St. Patrick's Day! There is a word in radio jargon for when they re-introduce the show after the break, you know "You're listening to Celtic Knot with Ryan O'Shea on CFUV 101.9" I think that word is a "reset" but I might be wrong, the word is escaping me at the moment.  Today, I had planned to start to show you the work on my Bladeguard Veterans, but a lot is going on at the moment, and I'd kind of rather reflect on that for a moment. So today is going to be a brief  reset of sorts.  Caesura means "a pause" in poetry or music - it ...

"Perilous Woods" - Oathsworn Trees - Part 2

‘Tis said that when The hands of men Tamed this primeval wood, And hoary trees with groans of woe, Like warriors by an unknown foe, Were in their strength subdued... The Forest Reverie - Edgar Allen Poe Here we are again, another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Sending many positive vibes in your direction, especially if you need them today! Today is a continuation of last week's post wherein we looked at painting the titular Deepwood from the board game Oathsworn: into the Deepwood. Today we're looking at the Deepwood unprepossessing! I mentioned last week that, in the world of Oathsworn, the forest itself is a constant presence and threat.  While there was an option to buy this game without miniature of the trees, I really think they add so much to the atmosphere! I mentioned that I was initially unhappy with how the trees turned out, but after having gone back and added more details (the vines, glowing tumours and moss) I'm now thrilled with how they look! In future post...
