"From the Depths" - Hallowe'en Hellmouth

Few creatures invoke as much fear  as the blighted nightmare that is the hellmouth.  Erupting from beneath to unleash terror  and consume flesh,  this horrific beast uses its spiked tentacles  to drag its hapless victims into its waiting maw. - Privateer Press Hallowe'en has come a bit early here on The Art of Caesura! Oh dear sports fans, we've had to postpone our regularly scheduled Blood Bowl content due to a pitch invasion by a terrifying tentacled horror... A quick interjection to our blood bowl content for a Hallowe'en special: it's a horror from the depths, the Hellmouth !! This is my first Privateer Press mini. I'm not usually a humongous fan of the Warma-Hoards aesthetic, but I saw this when I was in Toronto a few months ago and really loved it! I had a sneaky suspicion that it would work well for something else I'm working on at the moment...shhhh! For those of you familiar with this model, you'll know that it's ac...

"What's it Worth to Ya?" - Blood Bowl Goblin Ref

The trouble with referees is  that they just don't care which side wins. - Tom Canterbury Welcome back, sports fans, to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Last week we had the feisty Halfling Ref for Blood Bowl keeping us all in line, this week's ref might give you a bit of leeway...if you can pay... This week we're talking about the Goblin Ref (does he count as my contribution for Orktober?), but before we go into the painting aspect, this guy took a bit of modelling... Unfortunately my miniature came with his left thumb a bit deformed and the coin (that he is flipping to decide which team gets the kickoff) kind of deformed into his thumb. So that took a bit of reconstruction, and in the process I had to pare away what was left of the coin. I actually meant to sculpt a new one, but, well, I forgot! I still think you can kind of tell what's going on, but it is a bit of a loss because the original coin even had the spikes sticking out ...

"That's a Yellow Card and No Elevenses for You!" - Blood Bowl Halfling Ref

Referees are the law. They have a whistle. They blow it. And that  whistle is the articulation of  God's justice. - Harold Pinter  Hello sports fans and welcome to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! I hope your thirst is well and truly quenched after the past month or so of dabbling in beer myths , beer and food pairings and craft breweries that are local to my hometown on the West Coast of Canada.  So lets stop for a second (breakfast), and shift our focus to Blood Bowl! I really love Blood Bowl. I don't get to play the tabletop version too often, but I regularly game the 2016 PC version. It's delightfully chaotic and oozing with character. So when I saw the Forge World refs, I knew they were for me! Today we'll look at one half(ling) of the refs included: the Halfling Ref! What a great model! They've managed to squeeze so much character into one little guy; he is simultaneously losing the fillings of his pepperoni sandwich whi...

"Small Batch, Big Heart" - Mayne Island Brewery

"Mayne Island is a small, friendly, Canadian Island  positioned about half way between the lower mainland  of British Columbia and Vancouver Island." ~ Mayne Island tourist board It's Friday! It's The Art of Caesura! As I mentioned last week, my wife and I were on the West Coast of Canada this past summer, and whenever we go, we try to explore a new Gulf Island (a group of small islands in the Salish Sea between Vancouver Island and the Mainland). We've had some incredible experiences on those islands, including accidentally camping in a cougar area, swimming in bioluminescence, hiking, cycling, canoeing and all that good stuff.  On our most recent trip we even stumbled across a brewery, and that's where our adventure takes us today. Despite it's name, Mayne Island is actually one of the smaller ones at only 21-square-kilometres and with a resident population of only 1000 people.  We were in the process of cycling across...
