"Dark, Gritty, Lethal, Punishing" - Degenesis: Clan Wars

The world ended in 2073.  Asteroids rained down from the skies,  all attempts to stop them coming to naught,  and wiped the slate clean  of all that the Bygone people managed to build.  Ten thousand years of culture, extinguished in an instant.  But humanity endured. - Degenesis: Clan Wars Rulebook Just before we get cracking into today's topic, I want to make sure you are aware of another cool campaign that's going on at the moment. Humble Bundle are selling e-versions of   the complete Hellboy and B.P.R.D.   at the ridiculously low price of under 30 euro. I know it sucks to not have the physical copies, but surely your aunt has an old iPad or tablet lying around which is perfect for this purpose.  Today, I want to talk to you about a Gamefound (like Kickstarter) that I've been following, pre-launch, for the past couple of months... <Before I go on, I feel that I should interject by saying that I am not sponsored by either Humble Bundle...

Painting with Aodhán

Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen,  and a push in the right direction.  - John Crosby Hello one and all, welcome back to The Art of Caesura!  Today we're going to take a quick break from all of the Hellboy that I have been painting recently to take a look at a cool landmark in my hobby journey last month. But just before we do, seeing as how we've been covering so much Hellboy content recently, I just wanted to let you know about an insane Humble Bundle running at the moment for PDFs of ALL of the Hellboy and BPRD graphic novels! For 30 euro! Now, onto the good stuff.  For the first time, I'm helping someone get into the hobby! My friends,  RuairĂ and Vanessa , have an eight year-old son,  Aodhán,  who has been playing fairly involved board games for years and  has begun to show a keen interest in Warhammer 40k. My heart melted with joy when I heard this!  I still remember my first fledgling steps into the hobby and I think...

"Anung Un Rama" - Horned Hellboy - Part 2

"BOOM!" - Hellboy (various) Hello, welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I hope you have a fun weekend ahead! As always, I'm sending positivity your way, especially if you need it today.  Today is a fun one, we're picking up from last week's work-in-progress pictures of Horned Hellboy! As I said a few weeks ago, photographing Hellboy is a bit tricky with my set-up. Really warm, saturated colours tend to muddle together a bit. Because of that, I'm not so sure how visible the different reds that I used on his skin are here, but regardless, he looks awesome! What a fun mini! Hellboy gone full berserk, lining up a huge punch with his big right hook! While I was painting this guy, I was wondering (and not for the first time) what is going on with Hellboy's hair: skullet-manbun-muttonchops combo. Quite the statement! Painting all these Hellboy minis is really making me want to bust out the board game again. I'm actually re-reading the rule book in anticipation...

"Now I'm Pissed!" - Horned Hellboy - Part 1

Hellboy, to be other than human does not necessarily mean to be less. Remember that, remember me. Hellboy Omnibus, Volume 2: Strange Places, Mike Mignola It's Friday, which means it's time for your weekly fix of The Art of Caesura! We're still on a Hellboy kick - I'm going to ride this wave 'till I run out of steam! We've already seen regular Hellboy, and his ghostly friend. Today Hellboy is PISSED! A couple months ago one of my friends was selling a ton of hobby paints. I had only recently got my airbrush, so it seemed like a good opportunity to pick up a load of airbrush paints to save on time and faff of mixing and decanting from Citadel pots. Above, are all of the colours that I used on this Hellboy's skin.  While my process was much different with this Hellboy compared to my one of a few weeks ago, the time they took was similar. I opted for the airbrush for this guy because the vast majority of the model would be red, so I wouldn't have to worry mu...

"My Present Misfortune" - Johann Kraus (Hellboy) - Part 2

You say I'm not human, but on the contrary,  I understand your pain all too well.  You see, a long time ago, I lost the woman I love,  and that was, in fact, the cause of my present misfortune.  I will tell you about it someday.  Johann Kraus - Hellboy II (2008) Welcome back one and all! Pull up a chair, because it's time for The Art of Caesura! I feel like I've just had my head down over the past few months since Isla's birth, I haven't really checked in on you guys. So I hope you're all well, and I'm sending lots of positivity your way, especially if you need it today.  Over here on the blog we're going Hellboy mad! I'm having a really joyful time with these miniatures - it's just the break from larger painting projects that I was looking for.  Today, we're picking up from where we left off last week, with everyone's favourite ectoplasmic emission: Johann Kraus.  I feel like I'm a pretty big Hellboy fan. I've read two of the omn...
