The trouble with referees is
that they just don't care which side wins.

Welcome back, sports fans, to another Friday on The Art of Caesura!
Last week we had the feisty Halfling Ref for Blood Bowl keeping us all in line, this week's ref might give you a bit of leeway...if you can pay...
This week we're talking about the Goblin Ref (does he count as my contribution for Orktober?), but before we go into the painting aspect, this guy took a bit of modelling...
Unfortunately my miniature came with his left thumb a bit deformed and the coin (that he is flipping to decide which team gets the kickoff) kind of deformed into his thumb. So that took a bit of reconstruction, and in the process I had to pare away what was left of the coin. I actually meant to sculpt a new one, but, well, I forgot! I still think you can kind of tell what's going on, but it is a bit of a loss because the original coin even had the spikes sticking out of it like on the coins that come with each team.
I also decided to cut off his left arm where it joins the sleeve because there was no way I was getting a paintbrush around it to paint his face. This worked really well - I just had to remember to keep up with whichever stage of the skin I was working on when painting his arm separately.
I painted his outfit at the same time as the Hobbit's from last week which made it nice and speedy and I even added the same pit-stains.
Once I had finished the uniforms on both models, I finished off the Halfling and then went back and finished off the skin and details on the Goblin Ref.
Again there are some really lovely details on this model. I love how he's hiding the bag of bribe money behind his back, and to add to his unreliable persona, he has a little bottle (of booze?) in his breast pocket!
He also has a stack falling out of his back pocket, I was originally going to paint them up as red and yellow penalty cards, but instead opted to keep with the green theme and paint them as greenbacks.
Painting these two blood bowl minis was really satisfying, and got me stoked to do many more blood bowl special characters in the future.
See you next time, sports fans, on The Art of Caesura!
