Welcome all! It's Friday and that means...The Art of Caesura!!
We're deep in Hellboy territory this month, and today we're finishing off the game's Clue Tokens. To see what this is all about, check out last week's post; otherwise, lets dive right in...
We'll start with a few dusty tombs - no doubt filled with mystical lore:
I had to zoom in super close because these things are TEENSY WEENSY! They're actually so small that I'm going to put them on bases so they don't get lost mid gaming-session. I love the skulls and candles and scrolls, nice and arcane.
No creepy Nazi complex is complete without a...generator.
This next one is actually my favourite of all the clue tokens! I love the different details and textures. The letter on the table, the clay mortar and pestle and the jars that I've painted as different colours of glass.
I added texture to the clay portions by first painting them with Typhus Corrosion. I then tried to make it look like the glaze is cracked by starting with patches of Agrellan Earth before painting the lighter floral pattern. I purposefully painted the floral pattern quite messily to represent it having been daubed onto the clay millennia ago. I actually coated the glazed part in gloss varnish (keeping the clay rim, handle and base without) but I'm noticing now that it isn't too visible in the photos.
Last but not least we have our dead Nazi soldier. This was the fastest one to paint! I had actually painted the stone part last week at the same time I did the stone plinth that the ominous box was sitting on. His coat was Steel Legion Drab, boots were Doombull Brown, bone was Ushabti Bone, buttons Screaming Bell and helmet Abaddon Black.
To darken it all down, I gave the whole thing (minus the stone) a wash with Nuln Oil before giving a second wash with Agrax Earthshade. After picking out the highlights with the original colours, I finished with a light drybrush of Leadbelcher on his helmet.
And that's the lot of them!
I hope you enjoyed this look at the rest of the Hellboy: The Board Game clue tokens. I'll see you next week right here on The Art of Caesura!
