To the darkness I bring fire.
To the ignorant I bring faith.
Those who welcome these gifts may live,
but I will visit naught but death and eternal damnation
on those who refuse them.

Welcome to your Friday Fix of The Art of Caesura! And happy St. Patrick's weekend!
I hope you're having a great Friday - wherever you may be.
Over the past month and a bit, here on the blog, we've been looking at Grimaldus and his Retinue. Today we're putting it altogether and checking out the final photos of these guys.
One quick note before we dive in, if the photos look a bit different than usual, for some reason my photo setup let me down this time and various radiators, cots and other debris of dad life were visible in the backgrounds of all the photos, so I have tried to remove the backgrounds to greater or lesser success.
Anyway, lets get cracking!
I'm REALLY happy with how Grimaldus turned out. He looks pretty much just how I would have wanted him to. I also think his plasma pistol and his base turned out really well.
"Grrrrr!!! So Angry!!!"
It was fun trying out the marble effect on this relic. I have seen people use this effect for the bases of Sisters of Battle and Custodes armies and it is a surprisingly simple technique for how effective it looks!
As a fun little peek behind the curtain, I have included the raw image of the picture above, below so you can get a sense of what the unedited pictures (and background bother (radiator reflection and visible cot) look like.
It's probably not the healthiest situation when the tube going into your abdomen is marked with hazard stripes!
I found the water boy the most difficult to paint of this troupe. I didn't really know what to do with the water in his...dish. I think the water in the vat looks okay, but the dishwater is much too dark, I feel. How do you paint something that is sculpted in an opaque substance but is meant to represent a transparent liquid? As I have said before, I managed to accomplish a similar task on the ocean bases of my Kharadron Overlords, but the frothy caps of waves lend themselves better to painting techniques over still water in a bowl.
Unlike the water, I'm really happy with the banner. Sculpted details on banners are a Godsend!
I mentioned before that I weighted his base with a coin, it fits perfectly, and works perfectly to mitigate his falls risk.
And here they are! The family shot! I Use Grimaldus in a 10-man block of Primaris Crusaders in every game over 750 points that I play. It's great to have him looking so good on the tabletop now.
