I'm a big, green time bomb. And I'm ticking.
- The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Welcome back to your Friday fix of The Art of Caesura!
For the past few weeks we've been looking at some of the (super)heroes from Marvel Zombicide, today we're looking at some of the zombies; starting with...The Incredible Hulk!
In the base version of this game you actually play as the zombies and try to eat the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., bi-standers and living superheroes. If you get an expansion, you can play as the living heroes, but I must say, when you're playing as the zombies, there's a "hunger" mechanic where the hangrier you get, the more powerful you get, but if you get ravenous, you lose control of your character and can only perform basic functions until you eat someone to bring down your hung-o-meter. It's a really fun "push your luck" mechanic, because the living superheros are really powerful, so you'll need to be a bit peckish to take them on.
Whenst painting The Hulk, I had the fun idea to paint his zombie version with a pale, desaturated green to contrast his living version which I will do in a nice bright green. To add some interest to what could otherwise become a dull pastel green, I decided to give him purple shadows. So, from my zenithal undercoat, I turned the mini upside down and sprayed Hexed Lichen from below:
This instantly gave a cool and interesting effect.
I then came in with a mix of Sick Green and Stonewall Grey for that nice muted green skin tone I was looking for.
Although not visible from the angle in the photo above, the purple is still nicely visible in the shadow areas.
I then turned my attention to his purple pants with Contrast Shyish Purple.
...which I highlighted up with Kimera's Violet (adding more and more The White).
With the pants complete, I painted the zombified flesh with watered-down Ushabti Bone, which I coated with Contrast Skeleton Horde and then Blood For the Blood God to the areas of exposed muscle.
And to finish him off, I quickly filled in a few details on his head and at that point he was passing the "arms-length test" of looking good enough at arms-length so I stopped there.
Next week we'll get to see him with his base complete, so tune in then to The Art of Caesura!
