"On the Road Again" - Moving House

To unpathed waters,
undreamed shores

Winter's Tale - Shakespeare

Hi All, welcome back to The Art of Caesura!

Today we'll pause to cleanse our collective palates from The World of Smog to have a quick look at my recent move of house! Rather than enthrall you with my domiciliary departure, I thought I would focus more on how I moved my many minis. Sorry for the blurry photos...such was the speed of my moving...

Man, for such mini minis they sure take up a lot of space!!

Long time readers will know that I am more of a "paint and display" kind of guy rather than taking an army over to the local gaming store (my "local" is two and a half hours away). Point being, I only have one army case that my aunt made me years ago - it proved to be SUPER useful for my Kharadron Overlords on their wave bases. We were only moving an hour and a quarter away, so I didn't really want to invest in cases just for the move.

Luckily all of my paints were sorted with the Project Box that my wife gave me for Christmas

Instead of cases for all, I did a few different things:

  • minis that were still on the sprue were easy - cardboard box, done

  • minis that had come with a formed plastic tray (most kickstarter minis) went back in their trays - it's funny seeing fully painted models right next to bare plastic ones, but looking at these models inspired me to get back to Conan and the like.

  • Then came the trickier parts: painted miniatures that had no real storage option (i.e. all my Games Workshop stuff). I started by putting less fragile miniatures back in the boxes of their respective games (Blood Bowl, Silver Tower etc.) this wasn't ideal, but would do for a few hours.

  • Even less ideal was the next step...if your squeamish, look away now!

Yes, this hurt.

I piled a lot of painted minis on top of each other in a padded box with bubble wrap on top so they wouldn't be moving around too much.

  • For my most fragile miniatures I blue tacked (or white tacked) them to the bottom of my mini-display-case and the larger ones to the bottom of a cardboard box. This worked really well as a hobo equivalent to the magnetized sheets lining the bottom of large Tupperware that I have seen some people (who move their army on a regular basis) use.

I was impressed that with the whole move, there were only 3 casualties: Two Malifaux Death Marshals (which, ironically, where amongst my best-packed in my mini-mobile display case) and the third was a model that I have yet to reveal on the blog...Luckily it was all minor things that won't take too long to fix.

And with that, my hobby dudes found their new home - I'm just starting to refill my display case.

I hope you never have to move your miniature collection, but if you do...I feel your pain!

See you next week on The Art of Caesura!

"The Skinny" - Scale 75 Flesh Paint Set Review

The complexion of a light-skinned face  divides into three zones: The forehead has a light golden colour  because it's freer of muscles and surface capillaries. The ears, cheeks and nose all lie within the central zone of the face.  Those areas have more capillaries carrying oxygenated blood near the surface, causing the reddish colour... The zone from the nose to the chin (where there are relatively more veins carrying blue deoxygenated blood) tends toward a bluish, greenish or greyish colour. Some artists accentuated this subtle bluish or greenish hue to bring out the reddish lip colour. Color and Light (page 156) - James Gurney Welcome all to The Art of Caesura! So I finished all the models in Warhammer Quest Silver Tower!! Wooohooo!! Now for something a bit different!  This week I'm going to do something I've never done on the blog before: write a review!! I've been wanting to write my thoughts on  Scale 75 's Flesh Paint Set for ov

"From the City of Shadows" - Arkanaut Company (Painting - Part 1)

The City of Shadows has a dubious reputation  amongst the Overlords, often labelled pirates  or worse by other duardin of their rival sky-ports. Barak Mhornar - Games Workshop Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Let's pick it up from last week and dive right back in to the Arkanauts. Last time we saw them they were all grey and naked. No longer!! This is going to be part one of a two-parter on the painting of these guys before we look their bases and then at the finished Company in the following weeks. I was going to try to cram it all into one post, but wow there is a lot of detail on these guys, and we're in no hurry, so best to spread it out and give it all it's due.  Barak Zilfin Colour Scheme When the Kharadron Overlords first came out I was looking at all the colour schemes and thinking "man, Barak Zilfin all the way!  I mean look at all that copper!" But over the year, my tastes have...matured and I came to really
