Beyond the circle of light,
there are countless slaves to darkness
who know nothing but hate and madness.
They look on the Imperium and see
only the possibility of fire and death --
and they find that good.
— Inquisitor Glavius Wroth
Hello, Helloooo! And welcome back to The Art of Caesura!
Last week we started looking at work-in-progress pictures of the 14 Traitor Guard from Blackstone Fortress. This week we're going to look at the completed models in all their traitorous glory!
So sit back, relax and enjoy this showcase of the scourge of the Imperium.
There are two of each sculpt, so I tried to have different spot colours on most of the duplicates. Above is one half of the dudes and below, the other half. Throughout this post I have paired the clones together for comparison.
I painted the first sergeant with the bone-coloured face mask and his cloak a rich red.
While the second has a red mask and purple cloak.
While painted with the same colours, the first flamer below was shaded in the traditional manner...
...and the one below was shaded with enamel washes.
The first of the next two soldiers, I shaded with Streaking Grime enamel wash.
I shaded its clone (below) with Dark Brown enamel wash.
The differences between the grenadiers are subtle, but easier to make out in the side-by-side pictures below.
The angles of the picture of the snipers below don't do too good a job of showing off the red spot colour of the first one...
...and ochre of the second one.
Examining all these guys really makes me want to play Blackstone Fortress again, and kill them all off!
I forgot to take a picture of the back of the guy below, which is a shame because I'm really happy with how the texture on their capes turned out. It was quite similar to the one above.
Below is my favourite model of the lot. Look at the dynamism of the soldier charging forward!
I painted the one below with a slightly lighter leather cape.
And below we have one final group shot of the whole gang together.
For a reminder on how I did their bases, you can check this post out.
Phew! That was a lot of painting and photographing! It was great to get some reps in with enamel weathering on GW models and I'm a huge leap closer to completing the Blackstone Fortress core box (and to one of my goals for this year).
I hope you're enjoying checking out my efforts with Blackstone Fortress. More to come right here on The Art of Caesura!!
