Welcome back to The Art of Caesura!
Last week we started in on the leader of my Assault Intercessors: The Champion of the Feast. We got him almost completely painted last week, but left off a couple choice detail for this week's post; namely the plasma pistol.
The last plasma glow I did was on Marshal Grymm. I took bits and pieces from a few content creators' videos for inspiration - you'll be able to see a comparison of that effort and this current one towards the end of this post.
For this one, I followed (as closely as my selection of paints would allow) the tutorial by Louise Sugden on Warhammer Plus regarding plasma glow. I started with thinned Lothern Blue and then Sotek Green.
I then darkened the tops of the coils by adding in Macragge Blue to the previous paints and lightening the base of them with white.
The last step was to glaze around the red casing with very thinned Macragge blue, working back up to Lothern Blue nearest the coils.
Lastly, I dabbed the edges of the darkest parts of the coils with Lothern Blue + white.
A detail that I love on this model is that his right hand, bearing the plasma pistol, is augmetic. This gives a bit of narrative that his pistol has overheated in the past.
Above and below you can see a comparison of this new plasma technique to that on Marshal Grymm. I think the new technique turned out way better. Where for Grymm, I went right up to white in between the coils and down to black on the most raised part, for the Champion of the Feast I kept the mid-tone blues to the fore. Obviously the OSL glow is also an improvement on the new model.
And so, with the plasma complete, so was The Champion of the Feast! Below we can see that he is ready to lead his warriors into battle.
Thanks for joining me, I'll see you next week right here on The Art of Caesura!
