"Recitation of Faith" - Terminator Chaplain Conversion - Part 1

Chaplains rouse Space Marines to war  with their litanies of faith,  and never is this spiritual fortification more vital  than amidst the blood and horror of boarding actions  and beachhead strikes. - Games Workshop Hello all! Welcome to your weekly dose of The Art of Caesura! As usual, I'm sending you lots of positive vibes, especially if you need them today. After almost half a year of Hellboy content on the blog, it's time to return to my beloved Black Templars. I have actually been working away in the background over the past few months, polishing off a few high-profile projects for my Templars. The first of which I will begin to reveal today! Today is the first part of a kit-bash that I'm pretty proud of. We're going to be looking at it in detail over the next few weeks and today we'll look at the build.  For those unfamiliar with Black Templars, they are inspired by crusading knights and are really not fans of psychic folks (the whole "burn the witch&quo

"Harbingers of Doom" - Frog Swarm Tokens - Part 2

The prophets of doom, in my experience, are generally ignored and usually right. - Fay Weldon Welcome back to The Art of Caesura! I hope you are all doing well, and I'm sending you loads of positive vibes, especially if you need them today! I know that I said this a month and a half ago , but I think this actually will be the last Hellboy post for a while. It has been a blast diving into these minis over the past few months. I was hoping to get the character busts painted while I rode this wave of Hellboy enthusiasm, but my painting cue is brimming over with other projects...one of which (the biggest one) I need to finish this year! So let's press the "pause" button on Hellboy for a bit after taking a look at today's creepy harbingers of doom! You can read about my painting process, including the large mistake that I  almost  made in  last week's post  (is that click-baity enough for you?). For now, let's look at these millions of frogs! Thank you, friend

"Dodging Madness" - Frog Swarm Tokens - Part 1

Welcome back to another amphibious episode of The Art of Caesura! I thought I was done with painting the miniatures from Hellboy: The Board Game several weeks ago when I painted Lobster Johnson , but then finding that old, incomplete post about the Frog Monsters reinvigorated me! As you have seen over the past few weeks, I actually completed a bunch of minis that I had started 5 years ago (which felt really good).  I mentioned, in my previous post about the Frog Monsters , that I had planned to airbrush them before changing my mind; well, that's all true, but before putting my airbrush away, I noticed these little Frog Swarm tokens in the box. I thought, well, I already have my airbrush station set-up, I might as well just prime these guys with the airbrush to save me heading out to the garage with the rattle cans. 1 hour later they were completely done! In Hellboy: The Board Game the Frog Swarms represent things getting increasingly crazy, and in terms of game mechanics, they down

"Sapient Humanoid Frogs" - Frog Monsters - Part 3

By the power of Sadu-Hem... Hellboy Wiki Greetings, once again, to The Art of Caesura! Aaaand we're back to frogs! After taking a little break last week to honour a few important birthdays, we're closing out the Frog Monsters from Hellboy: The Board Game that I had started 5 years ago! If you're interested in how these guys emerged, you can check out this post , or if you'd like to see the painting process, you will find it here .  Today we're looking at the finished product and, in my opinion, these are totally miniatures that benefit from been viewed as a big horde. Individually, the details are a bit soft, and lacking in some areas (not unlike my paint job for them), but seen altogether they do look quite horrifying - in a good way! Ultimately, I'm glad that I didn't totally repaint them as I was about to do. I think their various skin tones, while somewhat subtle, do add some nice variety to the group.  I'm now going to treat myself to painting a sm
