I'm a scientist because I invent,
transform, create,
and destroy for a living.
And when I don't like something about the world,
I change it.
Rick Sanchez - Rick and Morty
Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura!
It's an awesome one this week! I know I keep saying it, but the Zombicide: Invader minis are awesome! It's Rick Sanchez (from Rick and Morty)...IN SPAAACE!!! In Zombicide, he's actually called "Dr. Richard Morton" (an obvious homage to both Rick and Morty in the name) in my Space Station Zero crew, this is my scientist, Dr. Ilyen Quist.
Like the rest of the models for my crew, I had an absolute blast painting this guy, and he came together really quickly!
From a zenithal undercoat, I painted his pants with Contrast Wyldwood.
For his turtleneck, I watered down some Incubi Darkness and applied it fairly dilute.
His boots were simply Contrast Black Templar.
I shaded his lab coat with Contrast Apothecary White, and used this quite striking neon green - Striking Scorpion Green - for the alien bits on his "science-gun."
Once I had painted his wine bottle with Contrast Creed Camo...
...and his skin with diluted Guilliman Flesh, then I was done all the base coats (and much of the shading, thanks to the properties of Contrast Paints).
I applied some characterful stains to his lab coat, especially around the arm pits, with Seraphim Sepia.
Then it was on to the details. I highlighted up his lab coat with Kimera's The White, his turtleneck with Incubi Darkness + white, his pants with Skrag Brown, and I gave his hair a very light blue rinse with very watered-down Drakenhoff Nightshade and I painted a fluid level in his bottle.
I spent a bit more time on his face: I painted his beard area with a thinned mix of Drakenhoff Nightshade + Nuln Oil, I painted some Carroburg Crimson on his cheeks and then hightlighted his forehead with Wraithbone and his cheeks and nose with Wraithbone + Carroburg Crimson.
I'm thrilled with the product to effort ratio with this guy! We're almost half way through my Space Station Zero team now and I'm looking forward to showing you more!
Tune in next week to The Art of Caesura!
