"Butterfingers" - Nazi Engineers

Nazi engineers have a multitude
of uses when you’re tinkering about
with weird Ancient technology.

- Mythic Games

Hello fellow Reichbusters...I mean readers! Welcome back to The Art of Caesura!

When I first saw the models of today post I couldn't wait to paint them. I realize I've said that a few times on the blog to date. Thinking back, many times the models that I'm really excited to paint when I first seem them are "non-combatants". In the Conan board game it was the bookcase, in Hellboy it was the Doom Tracker, those are two that pop to mind. I think it's because while there is a narrative in seeing a model of a guy wielding a sword or gun ("who is he fighting? How will he fare?"), the non-combatant models really help to flesh out the world by adding to the sense of atmosphere. Such is the case with today's model(s): the Nazi Engineers.

By including these guys in the game, we are reminded that Vril is created - or at least (precariously) harnessed. It reminds us of the process behind all of the Nazi abominations in the game. Seeing this engineer covet his prized energy source adds so much to the theme of the game world - not to mention the fact that it's just a great model!

From a Grey Seer base coat, I painted the green coveralls 2:1 Gauss Blaster Green : Death Guard Green.

The canister started Leadbelcher and shoes Abaddon Black.

His leather bits are Steel Legion Drab.

I started the paint job bright and breezy so that I could darken it up in the next step.

I washed the whole model with AK Interactive's "Dark Brown" enamel wash and then pulled off the wash on the raised areas with mineral spirits.

Next, I began to highlight the model using my initial green mix and adding more and more Gauss Blaster Green.

I highlighted the white with Grey Seer mixed with more and more white.

Then I began on the glow from the top of the Vril canister.

From a Yriel Yellow base coat I glazed in some Troll Slayer Orange, more around the edges.

Then I mixed in more and more Evil Sunz Scarlet for a nice bright contrast to his dirty clothes.

Let's have a gander at some atmospheric photos of this guy and his buddies.

I love how these guys turned out. What do you think of them?

I'll see you next week on The Art of Caesura!

The Full Stop - A Deep Dive into Warhammer 40k Combat Patrol

Welcome to Combat Patrol!  Whether you are a new recruit to Warhammer 40,000  or a seasoned veteran,  Combat Patrol is all about getting your forces  into action as quickly as possible. - Combat Patrol Rules - Games Workshop Welcome back to the Art of Caesura! Recent readers will see that we've been looking at our fun little Warhammer gathering, KillCon over the past few weeks. Two weeks ago I provided a narrative verion of my game of Combat Patrol of my Black Templars vs. Tristan's Tyranids where as l ast week I gave a more "gamer oriented" play-by-play of the game.  Today I want to dive deeper into this accessible and engaging game-type. I want to argue that Combat Patrol is not just for beginners. Combat Patrol in 10th Edition is Games Workshop's new smallest scale Warhammer 40k game type. But unlike in previous editions, where it just meant that both sides took 500 point armies and went at it, in this edition, Games Workshop has changed things up a litt...

"The Skinny" - Scale 75 Flesh Paint Set Review

The complexion of a light-skinned face  divides into three zones: The forehead has a light golden colour  because it's freer of muscles and surface capillaries. The ears, cheeks and nose all lie within the central zone of the face.  Those areas have more capillaries carrying oxygenated blood near the surface, causing the reddish colour... The zone from the nose to the chin (where there are relatively more veins carrying blue deoxygenated blood) tends toward a bluish, greenish or greyish colour. Some artists accentuated this subtle bluish or greenish hue to bring out the reddish lip colour. Color and Light (page 156) - James Gurney Welcome all to The Art of Caesura! So I finished all the models in Warhammer Quest Silver Tower!! Wooohooo!! Now for something a bit different!  This week I'm going to do something I've never done on the blog before: write a review!! I've been wanting to write my thoughts on  Scale 75 's Flesh Paint Set fo...
