'Do you remember,' said O'Brien,
'the moment of panic that used to occur in your dreams?
There was a wall of blackness in front of you,
and a roaring sound in your ears.
There was something terrible on the other side of the wall.
You knew that you knew what it was,
but you dared not drag it into the open.
It was the rats that were on the other side of the wall.
- George Orwell, 1984
Welcome one and all to another Friday on The Art of Caesura!
To all my Canadian readers, have a reverent Remembrance Day today.
We're deep into the Deepwood now! Last week we looked at how I'll be doing the bases for all my models in this game. Two weeks ago I showed you how I painted the models that today - with their bases complete - we'll be delighting in: the completed Giant Rats.
I'm really happy with how they turned out, especially considering all twelve of them (plus the huge mass of them on the back of the Broodmother) took less than 4 hours - or about 10 min per rat.
Looking at them now, the extra highlighting on the faces - that I maligned in my previous post - actually paid off. I also think that the extra texture that I rapidly painted on their tails adds a bit of interest.
I can't deny that the bases, which were ridiculously simple and fun to do, do a lot of the heavy lifting; especially when you see them all together.
And Bob is your proverbial uncle! That's the minions of Chapter 1 complete; next, it's time for their momma!
