"Honour or Death" - The Emperor's Champion - Part 2

Wreathed in golden light,  these implacable warriors  can shrug off countless wounds and,  in return, strike down innumerable foes.  Their holy wargear is held  in the Reclusiam of the Black Templars,  and should the Champion falter and fall,  crusades are launched to recover these sacred armaments. - Games Workshop Welcome back to another Friday on The Art of Caesura! Last week we rung in the New Year with my painting process for The Emperor's Champion. This week we'll be looking at him in all his glory! Before we do, just a quick note that next week is the blog's SEVENTH birthday! So be sure to join me back then! After last week's post, I have been excited to show you the Champ in a light which better shows off the Black Sword. My (relatively) new lights that I paint under are brilliant for painting, but I have found that they really over-expose my work-in-progress pictures. Anyway, I'm really really happy with how this model turned out. I'm quite p...

"Sigismund’s Heir" - The Emperor's Champion - Part 1

The Emperor's Champion is a humble warrior  plucked out of the ranks of the Black Templars  by the divine will of the Emperor himself.  The furious blows of the enemy ring  from his nigh-impenetrable Armour of Faith,  while the Champion seeks out enemy generals  and heroes and slays them  with sweeping blows from his Black Sword.  - Games Workshop Welcome to the year two thousand and twenty-three! The distant future indeed! I hope you all had nice times over the holidays and / or you're looking to the year ahead with renewed hope.  I have really enjoyed sharing my (late) Autumn Reading List , my Christmas Quiz , my little duders all dressed up for Christmas and then my recent hobby loot with you over the past few weeks, but it has left a dearth of new painted minis on the blog! The last newly painted model that I shared with you was  The Broodmother from Oathsworn - one of my favourite models of 2022. Truth be told, I actually have a c...

Happy New Year - 2023!

Welcome and Happy New Year's Eve-eve to you all! Could it really be!? ANOTHER NEW YEAR!  It seems like only last year that we got one of those and the old thing still had some life in it yet!  Anyway, as is tradition on The Art of Caesura, today's post is just a quicky to wish you all a very Happy New Year and to show you my recent hobby-related loot haul! We will do our proper tear-filled retrospective in a few weeks' time for the blog's birthday. Kimera Kolors: Marco Frisoni was a huge proponent of these paints when I attended his workshop last year, I'm really looking forward to trying them out! What makes these paints somewhat unique is that they are heavy-bodied acrylics aimed at miniature painters that are mostly single-pigment - giving the painter ultimate control over colour mixing without running into muddy browns and greys due to neutal tones which are often added to other miniature paints.  Weathering Powders: I am not totally satisfied with the bases of ...

Christmas 2022!

Welcome to the annual Art of Caesura Christmas post! I hope you're all able to get a bit of time off to enjoy with family / get some rest! To get you in the spirit of the season, some of the miniatures that I painted in the past year have come back to wish you a very Merry Christmas! This year, I even took the extra step of making a new Santa hat to use in conjunction with the one that I sculpted six years ago for the blog's first Christmas (and have been using ever since). While I love the previous one, I wanted to have one more in scale of "human-sized" figures so that I would have more choice on who got to wear the hat! Enjoy! Okay Nurgle, we've had enough of your gifts over the past few years; off you go! "Chestnuts roasting on an open Pyre Pistol" "O come all ye faithful...join chaos!" "I'll have a blue Christmas without you..." "Away in a manger..." Oops, just a second... ...There, that's better! Can't h...

Christmas Pop Quiz!

Happy Holidays! To get you in the mood for this festive season, I've got a holly jolly Christmas quiz for you today! I actually made it for a family Christmas party, but you're all very welcome to join in here! I compiled the questions from various online quizzes (and tried to fact-check the ones I was unsure of) and made up a few of them myself. I tried to hide the text like a "spoiler" button, but it involved editing code so I'm afraid you'll have to just use the old school method of scrolling slowly, or holding a piece of paper up to the screen to hide the answers! I hope you enjoy and feel free to use them for your own Christmas parties! -~- Round 1 - General Christmas Knowledge 1) Which current world leader celebrates his birthday on Christmas Day? Justin Trudeau 2) At what point in the Christmas celebrations are you likely to experience the effects of Silver Fulminate? When pulling a Christmas Cracker (it’s often the chemical used on the friction strip ...
