Towers of Silver and Land of Gold

Beauty is a fading flower, Truth is but a wizard's tower Where a solemn deth-bell tolls, And a forest round it rolls. Epilogue from "The Flower of Old Japan" Alfred Noyes Welcome back one and all to another week of The Art of Caesura! I hope you all had great weeks! Mine was excellent, especially Tuesday when everything arrived at once... Last week I was getting pretty excited about Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower and Total War: Warhammer and now their both here. Many people have been doing unboxings and early access game-play previews for Silver Tower. Some photos of assembled and painted minis are already making the rounds. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury at the moment of having much free time, but I do hope to clean and assemble a good bunch of minis this weekend in hopes that I'll have a test mini (Maybe a fun little Brimstone Horror) ready for you next week.  I'm already starting to think about how I'll base these bad ...

Hammer Time!

Throughout the mortal realms the legends of the Silver Tower are recounted with awe and admiration. Tales of disparate champions good and evil, brought together by naught more than fate, battling against sanity-shredding horrors in the ever-shifting domain of the Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch. ~ Games Workshop Website Hey all, welcome to another week of The Art of Caesura! How has your week been? Mine’s been a bit hectic, but I kind of managed to enter one of those zen states and got ‘er all done! A surprising week in terms of Art of Caesura content…with a view to retaining my street cred, I’m surprised to admit that I’m getting really excited by Games Workshop products (and licenses) this week. I was totally sold when I saw Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower . Not only are the minis looking great, but the old game sounded super fun. I’ve been really enjoying Ash’s homemade version, Realm Quest for the past few months. And so was delighted to see that this was coming ...

The Night Watchman

It's one of the tragic ironies of the theatre that only one man in it can count on steady work  - the night watchman. - Tallulah Bankhead Welcome back for another week of The Art of Caesura! So, rest assured, I’m actually here this time. I am happy though that the autonomous posting of last week’s entry actually happened. Iceland was awesome, I’ll have to tell you about it sometime. Those “long-term” Caesurians amongst you will remember the glory of Sabre back in February (and the celebrated tasting just a few weeks back). The dark English-bitter Ale that I brewed in my bathroom. I was really happy with how it turned out and impressed that it lasted me 3 months (to the day!) Unfortunately, I wasn’t quite organized enough to have started another brew before finishing the first one…but I have started it now… I’m brewing a porter this time. I love dark beers, and among my favourites are: Phillips’ Longboat Chocolate Porter and Galway Bay Brewer...

"Concentrated Deformation" - Abomination (Headley)

…explorers report strange sightings,  carrying tales of rotting mechanical creatures. These abominations are made from leftover parts that leave nightmares in the minds of all who see them Malifaux 2E: Crossroads Join me for another glimpse into The Art of Caesura! Now, this is a new one for me. I’m not actually here right now…I’m in Iceland! I figured out how to write this post in advance and schedule it to be released on Friday. Sorry for the sneaker. I really want to challenge myself to keep this blog every single week for my own satisfaction, and so that you can rely on this regular Friday afternoon diversion. Today is a continuation of last week’s post. This one is another Abomination from Leviticus’ “Salvage and Logistics” crew. Headley is his name. Compared to ol’ Sawhawk last week, assembling Headley was a bit trickier. When I clipped one of the pieces (a wire that attaches to his undercarriage) it was so small that it instantly flew away, ...

"Vile Reclamation" - Abomination (Sawhawk)

“Many question the curiously human faces some abominations have, And how they came to be lodged in a monstrosity of flesh and steel.” Malifaux 2E: Crossroads Hey dudes and dudettes, welcome back to The Art of Caesura! And welcome to the first non-World of Smog mini on my blog so far. I had heaps of fun with this grotesque little Malifaux dude. He’s an abomination from Leviticus’ set, and man is he tiny! I dub him "SAWHAWK" I have to say, this guy went together really smoothly, there were minimal mould lines to clean and all his various limbs popped right into place. He really made me think of some monstrosity from Doom or Wolfenstein and is titular Sawhawk is right echoed in Mad Max's Scrotus. I had fun breaking up his fleshy bits with Blood for the Blood-god technical paint splattered on with a stippling brush. I just wanted to include a few work-in-progress shots to try to show him in a bit more detail, and to give a bit of r...

First Forays into the Miniatures of Malifaux

Hey all, welcome back to The Art of Caesura, Last week I was talking about my perspective on the world of Malifaux, and this time around I want to talk about the minis and show the loot I’ve managed to amass so far. But before I do, I hope you had a great week, and that next week is even better! As I’ve mentioned a couple of times before, I came to Malifaux from Warhammer Fantasy. I was used to painting big chunky orcs; and lots of them! So when I bought my first Wyrd minis (Jacob Lynch’s “Dark Debts” box) I was impressed and a little intimidated by how small these guys are. I mean they are 32mm scale compared to GW’s 28mm scale, so I guess technically they’re larger. But by God, they’re slight. Their various wrists and ankles and the like are really really minuscule (one of the Beckoners’ canes is thinner than the width of a paperclip!). I love the detail of them, and the narrowness of the models actually make them feel even more detailed. Miniatur...

Mentioning Malifaux

Only a handful of people have any idea how they discovered the world just outside of our existence, but only the faintest veil kept our two realities apart...and all walls can be knocked down. Malifaux - 2nd Edition Rule Book Hi Gang, and welcome back to The Art of Caesura! Hope the week has been a good one. I just started a new job this week, so that’s been pretty awesome! When I started this blog I wasn’t exactly sure which direction it would go. Would it be a strictly miniatures blog? Would it focus on one miniature game exclusively? Would it be about hobbies in general? I’m happy with how it’s going. I like that it’s largely about miniatures, with other hobbies thrown in fortnightly. Let me know what you think? Is there something you’d like me to focus more on? If I were going to focus exclusively on miniature game / line it would be Malifaux. This might seem funny because I’ve barely mentioned Malifaux up until now. But secretly in the background, while ...
